NVIDIA has revealed that EA's first-person shooter Battlefield V and upcoming multiplayer action RPG Anthem will both support deep learning super sampling (DLSS) on the company's RTX line of graphics cards.

The news was announced by NVIDIA at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2019, along with the launch of the new RTX 2060 card, new technology to power gaming laptops, and new additions to the company's line of G-SYNC monitors. Justice and Atomic Heart, tech demos showing off DLSS and ray tracing technology, were also premiered during NVIDIA's CES 2019 show.

If you're confused by some of these terms, don't worry - this is pretty techy stuff. Deep learning supersampling is basically a new rendering technology that's only available on NVIDIA's range of RTX graphics cards. Despite the name, DLSS isn't really super sampling - rather, it renders a game at a resolution below native, then uses AI processes to upscale the image. This is a post-processing effect and is largely used in two ways - as a new form of anti-aliasing effectively to render out jaggies in what Nvidia terms as a better and lighter weight method, and as a resolution upscaler. In the latter mode, what it provides is an improved version of things like checkerboard rendering that the PlayStation 4 Pro or Xbox One X use to sometimes get 4K images, but far better suited to the PC. If you're interested, this explanation is pretty darn good, and Nvidia has further talked about it here and here.

At present, there are 4 NVIDIA RTX cards announced. The budget option, the RTX 2060 was just announced and will retail for around $349. The RTX 2070 can be had for $599, the RTX 2080 will set you back $799, and the RTX 2080 Ti will shed a whopping $1199 from your wallet. All of these cards support DLSS as well as ray tracing technology, which is basically a way to simulate realistic light through tracing its path as pixels on an image plane. Again, we're deep into techie territory here, so don't worry too much if your head isn't in this world.

Battlefield V was released in November last year, while BioWare and EA's Anthem will land worldwide on February 22nd, 2019. They join a list of games that will support the RTX features that include Justice, Atomic HeartArk: Survival EvolvedHellblade: Senua's Sacrifice and more.
