The Battlefield 2042 "Cross-Commerce" system is a new feature in the next Battlefield game that will allow players to carry over their purchases to any other platform — and yes, there will be Cross-Play and Cross-Progression, too.

Battlefield 2042 is arriving later this year and Electronic Arts has revealed more details about what players can look forward to. The game is removing many of the restrictions of class systems going forward — and your in-game purchases will have fewer restrictions, too.

How Battlefield 2042 Cross-Commerce Works

The Battlefield 2042 Cross-Commerce system is a pretty neat idea. Simply put: buying something in-game on one platform will make it available on all platforms you own the game for.

"Alongside cross-play we’re also building cross-progression and cross-commerce for Battlefield 2042, which will be shared across all platforms and travel with you wherever you go," read an EA Answers page for Battlefield 2042. "For example, your unlocked progress and purchases in your PlayStation® copy of the game will carry over onto the Xbox or PC version, and vice [versa]."

There are, however, some questions that are still unanswered like will there be platform-exclusive skins and, if so, will they transfer over? We're sure to find out more in the coming weeks and months.

Not Everyone Can Use That Cool Battlefield 2042 Wingsuit

One of the other interesting tidbits centers on the cool new Battlefield 2042 wingsuit. If you're going to want to zip around in the sky, you'll have to pick a certain kind of Specialists. Specialists are essentially the next evolution of Battlefield 2042 classes.

Gone are the days of your Class determining your loadout. Now, players can select pretty much any piece of equipment they like with two exceptions: Specialties and Traits. A "Specialty" is a particular piece of equipment that can only be used by that Specialist and the Wingsuit is only available to that Specialist. As for Traits, these look like they'll be special abilities such as the Combat Surgeon's ability to revive players to full health.

For now, there's a lot to look forward to for this next-gen Battlefield game. You can pre-purchase Battlefield 2042 for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox via its official website; you'll be able to play this next-gen first-person shooter when it launches on October 22, 2021.
