We've finally gotten more details on Pokemon Go PVP according to a news post on the game's official website.
It's been two and a half years since Pokemon Go was first released (and probably set a data center or two on fire). The game has proven wildly popular for Niantic and has gotten people of all ages moving around in the real world. Now you (and probably your grandpa) will have yet another reason to head outside - Pokemon Go PVP battles look like they'll be really cool.
Pokemon Go PVP will allow you to challenge a friend or any other trainer provided that you have a battle code. This means that you'll be able to get battles going without having to inflate your friend list with people just to battle them - definitely a smart move on Niantic's part.
Trainers will have to be near one another to start a battle, but Ultra Friends (three stars) and Best Friends (four stars) will be able to battle from any distance. Your team leader will also be available as a PVE training experience which can net you a reward once per day.
The Pokemon Go PVP battles will take place in real time, just like the gym battles Trainers are used to. They'll be relatively fast-paced affairs. Each Trainer will be able to field a team of three Pokemon for their fight.
Niantic likes to keep things fair, and for that reason there will be three separate leagues. The Great League has a CP cap of 1,500, the Ultra League has a CP cap of 2,500, and the Master League has no cap whatsoever. These restrictions should ensure players of all levels will be able to fight it out without the victory automatically going to the person who's been playing the longest.
Win or lose, both Trainers will receive rewards from their Pokemon Go PVP battle along with the chance to earn rare evolution items. We don't yet have a firm release date on this new feature, but Niantic says that we can expect it this month. Be sure to read the blog post for all the details.
