As we near the release of Telltale's next project, Batman - The Telltale Series, we're finding out some more about the game and news is trickling out on it. While we recently learned about the new Crowd Play feature not being designed for streaming, Telltale has offhandedly informed people that the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Batman - The Telltale Series is being delayed.
Originally, the announcements had been that the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 versions would all be releasing on August 2nd, with the physical release and mobile versions hitting on September 13th in North America, and September 16th in Europe. In their most recent post, however, they have included at the end of it that the PlayStation 3 and XBox 360 versions will be launching later in August, and not on the originally announced August 2nd date. Additionally, only the console versions will be getting the physical season disk passes, the PC will not be receiving it.
The article came with the first in their series of accompanying videos Batman: Unmasked. Hosted by Greg Miller of Kinda Funny Games, they are going to largely be after-show discussions to talk about the episodes featuring people from the comic industry and Telltale. This episode is meant as a primer however about what led up to the creation of the game, and it's origins. This episode included ComicVine's Tony Guerrero, Telltale's CEO Kevin Bruner, and the game's Executive Producer Sean O'Connor as they ran it through.
In the episode they talk about how Telltale is getting to work with their own universe of Batman, not having to follow any of the other editions of it. The game will take place with a relatively new Batman who's only been on the job for a few years and as commented in the video "no robin's". At this point, Gotham hasn't really decided what they think of the caped crusader either, and how you act as Batman will impact that in the world - whether they view him as a dangerous violent vigilante or a guardian of the city.
Telltale explained that they had established a good relationship with DC from working with them on Fables for The Wolf Among Us which is what led to them working with DC on Batman. They do emphasize that the focus on choices is on roleplaying like in other Telltale games rather than on more fully branching paths with large differences in ending.
