Virtual Alchemy, a new Polish studio located in Warsaw, has revealed its debut title Band of Crusaders, and it's definitely one to watch if you're a fan of The Witcher.

Per a press release, the game is set "in a corrupted version of medieval Europe" in which a knightly order must battle demonic forces in order to restore the continent to its former glory.

To that end, you'll engage in strategy RPG battles, recruit crusaders to your cause, and "manage their mental and material needs". The press release describes the game's setting as "what the world of The Witcher would look like if you removed all the Witchers".

Band of Crusaders marries Witcher-style low fantasy and tactical RPG battling.

Art director Kamil Mickiewicz says the team at Virtual Alchemy worked hard on "historically authentic representations of medieval tools, armor, and weaponry".

Naturally, the studio couldn't implement historically accurate representations of demons, what with them not being real and all (or so it seems), and so the monster design in Band of Crusaders is "inspired by Biblical descriptions and European folklore".

CEO Dominik Sypnicki says that Band of Crusaders will task you with raising a company of warriors "from peasants to heroes" as they battle the forces of chaos.

In short, if you don't feel like you can wait for the next Witcher game to get your dose of European low fantasy (and the upcoming Gothic remake isn't going to whet your whistle either), then Band of Crusaders looks like it'll be right up your alley. You can check out the game's debut trailer here.

Unfortunately, we don't have a release date or even a broad release window for Band of Crusaders yet; this is still very much a work in progress, so expect to hear more over the coming months.

In the meantime, if you want to keep up with Band of Crusaders' progress, you can wishlist the game on Steam right here.
