New Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 3 details have been revealed by the developers today, including better rewards for peaceful players, more tolerant companions, the first details on Cross-Save, and more.

Baldur's Gate 3 takes the very best of Dungeons & Dragons and adapts it to a video game environment. The game is currently out in Steam Early Access to allow the developers to collect data from players and fine tune the development of the eventual release. Now, some new details have come to light for the next major patch.

Check out the Baldur's Gate 3 Community Update 11 video to see some of these changes in action!

Baldur's Gate 3 Emphasizes Peace and Tolerance

One of the most notable changes coming in Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 3 is changes to how the game rewards experience. Previously, players would not necessarily gain experience for choosing the peaceful option — that's all set to change in the next big patch.

One of the examples highlighted by the developers is the "Goblin Rooftop Ambush." Currently, players who elect to avoid combat won't get much in the way of rewards and would have to kill the goblin anyway to gain some XP. Now, they'll be properly rewarded for avoiding combat.

In a similar vein, companions are a little more chill, too. Larian noticed that the companions were a little too critical of the player; now, they're going to have a somewhat more optimistic focus on the "big picture" while still retaining their personality. Companions are getting other improvements, too, such as the ability to automatically follow the player character when they cross over a gap — no more managing Gymnastics!

Another key change is a rebalancing of some of the more challenging DCs (Difficulty Checks) for some conversations and events; Larian Studio's internal data showed that more players than expected failed some of these challenges.

Other balance changes, bug fixes, and more are also coming in Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 3; you can read about all of the details in the patch notes at the bottom of today's announcement.

When is the Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 3 Release Date?

Unfortunately, Larian Studios has still not confirmed the Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 3 release date. That said, the release of more detailed patch notes and an explanation of some of the new features means that it will likely be arriving sooner rather than later, hopefully before the end of 2020.

As previously stated, Patch 3 is going to break your save game — Steam players will be able to continue playing on the old patch if they want to. Your best bet is to finish up your current game ASAP or hold off on starting a new one! If you haven't yet jumped into the game, you can buy Baldur's Gate 3 via its official website for $59.99 or your regional equivalent.
