CRPG fans will be sad to see the Baldur's Gate 3 release date delayed, but Larian Studios has indicated that we shouldn't have to wait too much longer.
"Good news and bad news," stated a tweet on Larian Studios' official account. "[Baldur's Gate 3] won’t hit August, but it’s just around the corner."
Why Was the Baldur's Gate 3 Release Date Delayed?
The immediate question that comes to mind is this: why was the Baldur's Gate 3 release date delayed? We can't say for certain, but we can make a good guess as to why.
Earlier this year, Larian Studios indicated that Baldur's Gate 3 was having some trouble with development. It wasn't due to anything with the game per se; rather, it had to do with the challenges the developers were facing working from home.
"We started seeing more stress on the leads in terms of communication," Larian's Founder Swen Vincke said to The New York Times. "We’d spend all of our days just communicating — trying to solve problems, organize things, give direction."
At that time, the release date for Baldur's Gate 3 seemed uncertain. Larian subsequently announced at Guerilla Collective that it would be coming to Early Access in August 2020, but now the developers say that they can't meet that release window.
When is the New Baldur's Gate 3 Release Date?
Further delays to an already-delayed game can be disappointing, but it's not all bad news — odds are we're still on track to get Baldur's Gate 3 sometime in 2020.
"We’ll be announcing the release date, as well as big news on the Panel From Hell alongside [Geoff Keighley,] [Larian Founder Swen Vincke,] and the Larian crew. Tune in Aug 18th."
