Are you ready for more Baldur's Gate 3 content? Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 9 is set to launch sometime next month, and like the rest of the major updates we've received so far, it should be pretty substantial. Something in the tier of new classes or regions should be in the offing, although at this point we won't know specifically for a few weeks yet, which is a bummer. We'll at least receive a new patch and more news about the game in the festive Panel From Hell next month, which is something. The game itself is set to launch in 2023, so we should have a pretty good idea of what to expect going forward after the next Panel.
What we do know is that Acts 2 and 3 are being actively playtested right now, which is pretty exciting. Earlier Larian games have had the problem of having great first Acts and not-as-great subsequent Acts, so hopefully they can avoid this trend with the heavily anticipated Baldur's Gate 3. We'll hopefully find out by this time next year.
As for Larian Games, they have some incredibly massive shoes to fill with their belated sequel to Baldur's Gate 1 and 2. Forget about their genre; the first two games in the series are some the best games ever made, bar none. Even the mostly unrelated offshoot games, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 1 & 2, are classics that remain great experiences two decades later.
Basically, what I'm trying to say is that "good enough" isn't going to cut it for Baldur's Gate 3. Larian Studios has to get everything right and then some, and even then, it will almost definitely fall short of the heights achieved in Baldur's Gate 1 and 2. Still, it does look like Larian Studios is determined to make the best Baldur's Gate possible or die trying, so we'll have to see how well they do.
