The four survivors get ready to, well, survive in Back 4 Blood

If you're a fan of mowing down hordes of zombies, then rejoice, for the Back 4 Blood open beta is almost upon us. The co-op zombie shooter's open beta period starts this August for PC and consoles, and it'll be available for everyone to try.

What will the Back 4 Blood open beta offer?

In the Back 4 Blood open beta, you'll be able to play as five characters (or Cleaners, as the game is calling them). The open beta will offer two co-op PvE missions alongside two PvP maps, so you can sample a little bit of what the finished product will have on offer. You'll also be able to explore the Fort Hope hub, check out a selection of the game's weaponry, and build decks using some of the in-game cards. Obviously, the Back 4 Blood open beta will also have plenty of zombies to take down.

The Back 4 Blood open beta will offer plenty of opportunities to slaughter some zombies (sorry, Ridden).

How do you get into the Back 4 Blood open beta?

The Back 4 Blood open beta period begins on August 12th and ends on the 16th. If you pre-ordered the game, you'll be able to head into the Early Access version of the beta, which starts on the 5th and ends on the 9th. Alpha testers will be admitted to the Early Access beta as well. You can also register here for a chance to participate, but spots are limited, so there's no guarantee you'll get in. Even if you don't, though, the open beta is free for everyone regardless of whether you pre-order or not, so you'll only have a few extra days to wait.

We don't know if the Back 4 Blood open beta will feature this handsome chap, but it'll have plenty of content to try out.

You won't need a PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold subscription to play, and there will be both cross-gen and cross-play support, so you'll be able to play with your buddies even if you're on different platforms. Bear in mind that your progress will reset once the open beta period is over. Starting from August 12th, you'll be able to download the Back 4 Blood open beta on the Microsoft Store, the PlayStation Store, and on PC via Steam or the Epic Games Store. You can also pre-order the game there if you want to be guaranteed a place in the Early Access open beta. If you've got any burning questions about the open beta, you can check out the official FAQ for more info.
