Atlus is localizing and releasing a new Vanillaware game called 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim for the West. Directed by George Kimatani who previously worked on Dragon’s Crown and Odin Sphere, this latest project will be a departure from the developer’s usual fantasy fare as they delve into a world of mechs and science fiction. The single player 2D game doesn’t have a release date yet but will be available for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita when launched. Take a look at the teaser trailer from the 2015 Tokyo Game Show below.
There hasn’t been much more news about the game since the Tokyo Game Show in 2015 but now that Atlus is announcing that the game will be released in the West it seems likely the game is getting ready to launch. The publisher isn’t divulging too many details about 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim just yet, but they have released some screenshots showing off some beautiful artwork, a giant mech and character designs. The game will take place in a modern setting depicted by Vanillaware’s trademark lovely 2D aesthetics. The events of the story take place after a large catastrophe that has left the world in a bleak reality.
13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim was first officially announced at the Tokyo Game Show 2015 after the announcement of the HD remake of Odin Sphere: Leifhrasir for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. Now the game is closer to its release, however, no launch date has been announced for either Japan or the West. While we don’t know much about the story or mechanics, we do know it will be gorgeous.
