Astro's Playroom

Astro's Playroom, which is being developed by ASOBI Team and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment as a free title that is pre-installed on the PS5, will have 4-5 hours of play time.

The game will have 4 worlds, so roughly an hour will be spent on each world. These are the machine translated names for each world:

  • Cooling Resort, where the player will encounter wind, water, and ice.
  • GPU Jungle, where presumably players will encounter the graphics card in some weird way.
  • SSD Speedway, because the included SSD is really fast. Get it?
  • Memory Sky, because the sky's the limit, I guess.

Pretty weird names, eh? Well, each world will have special power-ups that players can utilize, such as a jetpack where the player will use the left and right mouse triggers to manipulate the jet. There's also a gun where you can apparently "feel the feedback when pulling the trigger", which is pretty cool, and a Monkey Power Suit, which allows players to climb walls while using the left and right triggers as your left and right hands.

According to this tweet, there will also be collectibles and PlayStation tributes, a time attack mode, and a online ranking system that's included with the game, which doesn't seem too shabby for a free game that comes with every PS5. Only time will tell, of course, but for now it seems like a decent distraction for a day or two.

Astro's Playroom will be pre-installed with every PS5, and will serve as a tech demo to introduce both the console and the new DualSense PS5 controller. Astro's Playroom will launch on November 12 with the PS5, and if you would like to learn more be sure to check out the interview here.

What do you think of this news? Do you think that Astro's Playroom is a good tech demo for the PS5? Will you try it out if and when you get a PS5? Let us know in the comments!
