Much-loved PS5 platformer Astro Bot is getting five new challenge levels, and these stages are designed to test your platforming skills to their limit, according to developer Team Asobi.

Announcing the new levels in a PlayStation Blog post (and not, for some reason, during yesterday's State of Play), Team Asobi says that unlike the game's holiday-themed level, which was designed to appeal to all ages, these new levels are "harder" and intended to "test your jumping skills".

The first of the five stages, Tick-Tock Shock, launches today and features hazards like crumbling ice platforms, fast-moving robotic fish, and spinning electric ropes to jump, all of which should be a challenge for even seasoned Astro Bot players.

Astro Bot is getting five new challenge levels.

After Tick-Tock Shock, the next level you're getting is Thrust or Bust, which arrives on February 20th. A week after that, you'll be able to play the ominous-sounding Cock-a-Doodle-Doom on February 27th, followed by the Crash Bandicoot-sounding Hard to Bear on March 6th.

Last but not least, the Armored Hardcore level arrives on March 13th. Each stage comes complete with its own Special Bot to rescue, but you'll have to head into the stages to find out which bots you'll be saving.

As well as the new levels, a PS5 Pro update for Astro Bot has also arrived, allowing you to play the game at its "constant best resolution" while still maintaining a solid 60fps. Honestly, the base game already ran pretty well, but this is still nice for PS5 Pro owners.

If you've yet to play Astro Bot, it's a 3D platformer that harks back to the classics of yore (and sometimes contains direct references to them in the form of its Special Bots).

The game sees adorable robo-protagonist Astro taking on a series of levels in order to repair his spaceship after it crashlands thanks to the machinations of the nefarious Nebulax, an alien bully who just wants to ruin Astro's day.

Astro Bot is available right now exclusively for PS5. You can check out our very own Andrew Stretch's glowing review of the game right here.
