Arma III developer Bohemia Interactive revealed that the first major expansion for Arma III is on its way sometime around January. Today they released an official piece of artwork along with some sparse details but said that more details will be coming at the PC Gamer show at E3 2016, including a release date.

There will be a new South Pacific island, Tanoa, with 100 km² to play with. They also released a reveal trailer for the new island.

The expansion's pre-order page says that Bohemia plans to add more recognizable modern-day armaments. That is something that fans have been asking for, and often time modding in themselves, for some time now. On top of that, new vehicle classes will be added including VTOL aircraft and light strike vehicles. Apex will also add a new co-op campaign for those looking for something a little more detailed than the typical online scenarios to play with their friends.

Apex is currently available to pre-order for $27.99 which will be raised to $34.99 at launch. There is also a listing for an "Arma III Apex Edition" which comes with the base Arma III, all of the DLC and the Apex expansion for $69.99 so if you've never jumped into the premier mil-sim now may be the time.

The Steam page also shows this notice: "Arma 3 Apex is scheduled for release in Q2 2016. People who pre-order Arma 3 Apex will be able to test some of the new content and features ahead of Apex' official release via Arma 3 Dev-Branch on Steam (exact dates and plans will be shared later on the Arma 3 Dev Hub)."

Earlier this year Bohemia released the Eden update which improved a slew of features in the game. Most notably the scenario editor was improved by leaps and bounds and the games sound quality was increased. Even more recently version 1.6 was released and it vastly improved the visuals of the already cutting-edge Arma III. Combine all of these together and it looks like Arma III has a big year ahead of it.
