The open world military tactical shooter Arma 3 is receiving new DLC with a twist, according to developer Bohemia Interactive.
The Laws of War DLC trades in the military fatigues for orange jumpsuits, with Bohemia Interactive focusing on a new humanitarian faction, the International Development & Aid Project, or IDAP. This faction is based on the real-life regulations found in International Humanitarian Law (IHL).
Bohemia Interactive is also offering their own form of humanitarian aid. A portion of all pre-orders and direct sales of Laws of War in 2017 will be donated to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The Laws of War will contain a new mini-campaign, titled the "Remnants of War," will introduce players to the IDAP. The Remnants of War campaign will star Nathan MacDade, an IDAP explosive specialist who is tasked with identifying and deactivating mines after the war in the Republic of Altis & Stratis ended. The campaign will span multiple periods of time and feature perspectives from various sides in the conflict.
In addition to the new campaign, a ton of new content is being added to the game. The IDAP faction, of course, comes with their own special outfits, new gear such as safety vests and goggles and their own vehicle, an IDAP van which comes in multiple variants for different functions. New tools include an IDAP drone that can move cargo or supplies to specific locations, or be used for demining active landmines and more miscellaneous content such as time trial challenges and a training mine.
The Laws of War DLC will also be supported by a free Arma 3 platform update, adding a lot of new content and feature extensions related to the DLC's assets and theme. This platform update will be free for all Arma 3 owners. Some of the highlights include the simulation of Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), two new Showcase scenarios (Showcase Laws of War and Faction Showcase IDAP) and more. A complete overview of the DLC and the platform update can be found here.
"With amazing support from our teams in the Czech Republic and Thailand, this marks the first project for our small new studio in Amsterdam, which - together with the perhaps unusual DLC theme - makes it extra special for us, " stated Joris-Jan van 't Land, Project Lead on the Arma 3 Laws of War DLC. Van 't Land noted that the DLC was inspired by their collaboration with the ICRC, which in turn inspired their charitable donations to the proceeds of the game.
"With this DLC, we hope to offer a balanced introduction to the laws of war, and their implications on the way that war is conducted." said Van 't Land.
Arma 3 Laws of War is scheduled for release in early September, and is available for pre-order on both Steam and the Bohemia Store, for $11.99. The DLC is discounted by 10% throughout the pre-order process.
