An Apex Legends Forge animated trailer made its debut on YouTube... and it didn't quite go as expected. Following the recent reveal of upcoming content, it seems that the new Legend's career is going to be rather short-lived. And by "short-lived", I mean "nonexistent".
If you've missed seeing it thus far, have a gander at the short trailer below. Bear in mind that things get a little bit messy.
So uh, yeah. I'm pretty sure we just saw the new Legend get iced by some kind of murderous robot. Considering that we haven't yet seen an in-game model of Forge just yet, it certainly wouldn't be that surprising to find that he wasn't actually going to be a character.
Instead, the Apex Legends Forge trailer suggests that someone else entirely will be the next Legend. So, who is this murderous red guy with a proclivity for stabbing?

So, who is the red dude who just stabbed the latest Legend in the back? Dataminers uncovered some details about him. His name is Revenant and he appears to have served as the announcer for the Fight or Fright event.
Hilariously, an in-game location showing the interview set contains a deathbox for Forge, strongly hinting that he may be dead. Leakers also uncovered the following imagery and submitted it to the /r/apexlegends subreddit:
So, the odds seem pretty good that the Apex Legends Forge trailer was a bit of a bait-and-switch to introduce an entirely different character. I can't actually recall the last time that a character was introduced and then brutally murdered so quickly in a game, so kudos to Respawn Entertainment for doing something original.
That's not to say that Forge is gone for good. After all, he does already have a fair few cybernetics and this is a game all about reviving your teammates and having them magically appear from a dropship alive and well. I wouldn't be surprised if he makes a return at a later date. Hopefully, he'll be all patched up by then.
