One of the handful of downsides in Animal Crossing: New Horizons has to do with the way the island works on your Nintendo Switch. Animal Crossing save data recovery was already a glaring issue — and it just got worse.

If you haven't yet watched the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Direct, you should definitely check it out — and be sure to pay attention to the fine print.

Back in June of last year, it was announced that Animal Crossing: New Horizons wouldn't have support for Cloud Saves. This can be a pretty big problem for a game like this as players will invest dozens or even hundreds of hours into their game, paying off their debt to Tom Nook, developing their town, and making friends.

A later announcement revealed that there would be an option for Animal Crossing save data recovery if your Nintendo Switch was lost or stolen. However, today's Nintendo Direct has a hell of a disclaimer that made what some view as a bad design decision much worse.

How Did Animal Crossing Save Data Recovery Get Worse in the Nintendo Direct?

The Animal Crossing Nintendo Direct covered a lot of topics in just under 28 minutes. There was a lot of information for players to absorb, and it's easy to miss little things here or there.

One of the biggest bugbears is a bit of fine print towards the "Frequently Asked Questions" section at the end. I took a still from that portion of the video and blew up the fine print. Check it out:

And just so it's abundantly clear, here's what the text says:

Nintendo Switch Online members can only have save data recovered one time due to loss or damage of system.

There are sure to be a lot of great things about Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but the way they're treating a player's save data doesn't really seem that great. You'll be able to get Animal Crossing: New Horizons for the Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2020.
