Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be having 'waves' of Animal Crossing updates this summer, with the first free Summer Update "Wave 1" arriving July 3. While that day is not today, you can still pine over the new trailer that Nintendo has posted below:

With the Animal Crossing update available on July 3, aficionados will be able to enjoy three new features and characters:

  • Swimming and Diving: players will be able to put on a wet suit and go enjoy the ocean, just like prior entries in the series. Players will be able discover and "scoop up" creatures that live within your island's ecosystem. New things can be added to your museum, so be sure to keep an eye out on anything that looks out of the ordinary. Blather will also have some new fun facts for players will they return with interesting new finds.
  • Pascal will bring new recipes for the player to enjoy, particularly those based on scallops. If you trade him scallops, he'll give you some mermaid-themed DIY recipes.
  • Gulliver may occasionally wash up on shore, a returning face to long-time fans of the series. He'll be dressed up as a pirate and will give players a special reward to convey his gratitude.

Besides the latest update, there's also a lot of news coming out of the Animal Crossing world. For instance, the first annual Bug Off will be occurring this Saturday on June 27, which is a bug catching event for players who want an extra challenge. The wedding season will end on June 30, 2020 for those who plan on getting married. The mermaid recipes may end up using Summer Shells--the current seasonal item--and the Mermaid Set will include a variety of items, that have been described as follows:

  • Mermaid dresser
  • Mermaid chair
  • Mermaid vanity
  • Mermaid sofa
  • Mermaid low table
  • Mermaid partition
  • Mermaid Floor Lamp
  • Mermaid Surprise Box (???)
  • Mermaid wallpaper
  • Mermaid flooring
  • Mermaid shelf
  • Mermaid ceiling lam

Note: these are probably not the final names. These do adequately describe what players will be able to get though.

There will also be another update in August, so players will have to stay tuned to see the next wave of content after Wave 1 launches to player's shores.

What do you think of this update? Are you burnt out on the game? Do you think more could be added? If so, let us know in the comments!
