Amy Hennig, the woman who helped make Uncharted the series it is today has left Naughty Dog. Hennig was the writer and director on Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. Without her guidance Uncharted may have turned out radically different. Hennig was originally hired by Naughty Dog to work on Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, at the time known as project big internally, although the first game she actually contributed on was Jak X Racing on PS2. Hennig had been at Naughty Dog for 10 years. Hennig's last day at the studio was March 3rd.
There are rumors that Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann "forced" Hennig out of Naughty Dog. Both Straley and Druckmann were the creative forces behind Naughty Dog's last game The Last Of Us. Apparently, Hennig's departure could lead to Straley and Druckmann taking the reigns of Uncharted 4's development. Sony has stated that Uncharted 4's development will not be affected, although there is still no concrete release date for Uncharted 4, so even if it has been affected it would be difficult to tell.
Hennig has been intimately tied to the success of each Uncharted game, and while the reason for her departure is unknown it is hard to believe she left voluntarily before completing her work on Uncharted 4. If the rumor that Straley and Druckmann "forced" Hennig out of the studio is true, it is hard to imagine why. All three Uncharted games achieved a great deal of critical and commercial success, and Hennig played a large role in that. It is possible that a conflict regarding the creative decisions in Uncharted 4 sparked her exit. However, all of this is unclear at this point, until Hennig speaks about her departure it is all conjecture.
