Popular multiplayer social deduction game Among Us has passed 2.5 million daily active users on Steam. The milestone was announced via the official Steam Twitter account and doesn't include mobile players or Itch.io users.
Just how popular is Among Us?
The short answer is "insanely popular". Steam's graph shows Among Us' users being fairly low until around August 10th, at which point the user base begins to climb. From there, the number of daily active users sharply increases, reaching a peak of around 2.7 million daily users in mid-September. The Steam Twitter account posted this graph alongside an eyes emoji, tagging Among Us developer Innersloth in the tweet as well.

It's fair to say Among Us' rise to fame has been meteoric. It was originally released for mobile and PC in 2018, but didn't pick up popularity until this year, when popular streamers like Sodapoppin and xQc began to play it on Twitch. Before then, Among Us had a solid player base in places like Brazil and South Korea, where many popular streamers played the game and streamed it to their followers who played primarily the free mobile version.
What does the future hold for Among Us?
Recently, it was announced that development on Among Us 2 had ceased in favor of implementing its intended features into the base Among Us game. Unfortunately, if you've been holding out for an Among Us 2 PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version, you might have a fair while longer to wait. In fact, the Among Us team have said that an Among Us PlayStation 4, or other console port is much trickier than you might think, so don't wait up for console versions in the immediate future.

That's not going to stop the rapidly advancing train of popularity that Among Us is currently riding. It's the darling of the moment in streaming circles, with everyone from professional streamers to amateurs and even Soulja Boy picking up on it. With over 2.5 million daily active users on Steam and that number only likely to increase as more players hear about it, now's the time to get into Among Us if you've been meaning to. It's currently available on iOS, Android, and PC via Steam or Itch.io.
