An Among Us manga one-shot has been announced and will be making its debut in Shogakukan's Bessatsu CoroCoro, a child-focused monthly magazine.

With millions and millions of players, the occasional Among Us crossover isn't surprising. It has, however, had some pretty strange crossovers such as a mask of Geoff Keighley's face and a collaboration with BT21. The popular social deduction game has just announced what may be its weirdest crossover yet: a manga one-shot.

What We Know About the Among Us Manga One-Shot

The Among Us manga one-shot will be premiering in the April 2022 issue of Shogakukan's Bessatsu CoroCoro magazine, a monthly manga magazine that targets elementary school children as its primary audience.

If you're not a big reader of Japanese comics, this is going to require a bit of explanation -- get ready for a crash course in manga. Manga are Japanese comics that are traditionally produced in black and white. Manga magazines are typically released in weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly formats, and each magazine usually targets a specific demographic. For example, Shueisha's Bessatsu Margaret produces manga for girls ages 12-17.

Among Us, however, has a somewhat broader appeal and is fairly popular with younger audiences. That's why it's being published in Bessatsu CoroCoro, a monthly magazine that is typically read by boys in elementary school. Notably, this magazine has featured manga with other video game characters including nine separate Mega Man manga over the last 20 years.

If you're hoping for some epic 50-chapter adventure, though, you're going to be disappointed. Manga is typically published in three different ways (whether digitally or physically). Serializations are weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly releases for an ongoing series in a magazine or on a digital manga service. Doujinshi are independent releases without a publisher. The third and final category for manga is the "one-shot" -- this is a single chapter of a manga that typically involves a self-contained story. Sometimes, one-shots can evolve into serializations --  most recently with popular titles Komi Can't Communicate and Blue Box -- but that is not always the case.

More often than not, one-shots are simply a one-off comic, whether it's done to showcase an interesting story or as a promotional crossover. That's what this Among Us manga will likely be, although we can't say anything for certain until it actually arrives.

We also can't say for certain how many pages the Among Us manga will be. Manga is a flexible format and this comic could be anywhere from 1 page to a couple dozen pages in length. There's also no word on an official English translation, although I'm sure that a fan translation will inevitably be released once it's actually published in Bessatsu CoroCoro in April 2022.
