American McGee, the creative mind behind American McGee's Alice and its sequel Alice: Madness Returns, is looking to get a third title in the series produced and is turning to his fans for help in getting started according to a news post on the Steam community page for the second game.

Based on Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures In WonderlandAmerican McGee's Alice takes place in a twisted version of the fantasy world popularized in a book that was first released to the world in 1865. While the original book was fantastical in nature and featured wonderous characters and environments, American McGee's version has a somewhat darker take on the series with overtones of psychological horror. In his take on the universe, Wonderland is a creation of Alice's mind and it had taken a turn for the worse following a series of tragedies that she had suffered in her life.

The first game was followed by Alice: Madness Returns which was released in 2011, more than a decade after the first game was unleashed upon the world. Now, American McGee is looking to secure the rights to the intellectual property behind the games and create a third title in the franchise.

Mr. McGee's website lays out the basics of his plans for Alice: Asylum and what fans of the series can do to help out. Fans can sign up for a mailing list to stay apprised of the project's progress, and you can follow him on YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook as well. Particularly generous fans can donate to his Patreon which will help contribute funding towards pre-production of the game. This funding will be used to assemble concept art and other materials, leading up to a crowdfunding campaign sometime around October 2018. Following the creation of a production/design plan, American McGee will try to get the green light from Electronic Arts and then raise the necessary funding for Alice: Asylum via crowdfunding.

American McGee has worked in independent game development for nearly 20 years. His most recent project was the fairy tale card game Out of the Woods which raised $250,000 on Kickstarter and is now available for pre-order.

What do you think of the potential for a third Alice game? Did you enjoy the previous two titles in the series? What do you hope to see in the sequel? Let us know in the comments below!
