Destiny 2PUBGDead by Daylight, and several other games have been affected by an Amazon Web Services outage earlier today.

With more and more companies shifting to a "games as a service" model, they naturally depend on datacenters and other services to transmit game data to players. Unfortunately, sometimes these services go offline. Over the years, service outages have affected large-scale platforms such as XboxRoblox, and games depending on Facebook such as FIFA Mobile. Now, another major outage has messed up quite a few popular online multiplayer games.

As PC Gamer reports, several major games are unplayable to various degrees due to the Amazon Web Services outage including Bungie's popular MMO Destiny 2.

Here are just some of the games affected:

  • Clash of Clans
  • Dead by Daylight
  • Destiny 2
  • League of Legends
  • League of Legends Wild Rift
  • PUBG
  • Valorant

Unfortunately, this Amazon Web Services outage expanded beyond these titles in the gaming sphere. Uplay and the Epic Games Store are affected, as are services for Bethesda Software's titles. And as Down Detector shows, quite a few non-gaming services have been affected as well.

Amazon has responded to the issue and noted that this affects "multiple AWS APIs in the US-EAST-1 region," so those of you not on the East coast may have been fortunate enough to avoid seeing any of these problems firsthand. Fortunately, it seems to have a handle on the situation -- if you're still experiencing problems, you should expect to see everything return back to normal sooner rather than later.

Has the Amazon Web Services outage affected any of the games you were playing today? Do you think games should do a better job of relying on a wider range of companies for their critical services? Let us know in the comments below!
