11 Bit Studios has tackled some interesting concepts from the horrors of war in This War of Mine to Frostpunk's groundbreaking survival city-builder. Their next game, The Alters, is another wholly unique game that's sure to cause a few head-scratches in the best way possible.
Announced during the PC Gaming Show 2022 is The Alters, 11 Bit's latest game set in a weird and bizarre science fiction universe. We got a first look at the cinematic trailer for The Alters, featuring a man and his many dopplegangers -- or "alternate" versions of himself -- on a giant wheel-base traveling across an unknown landscape. Believe me when I say it's as mysterious as it sounds, but it definitely hooks the attention of anyone watching the below trailer.
At the heart of The Alter's gameplay is the choices players make, which is much like that of 11 Bit's previous work with This War of Mine. Utilizing much of the manpower behind the gritty tale of war, The Alters will similarly explore "life-changing crossroads" the player character, Jan Dolski, finds himself in.
As seen in the trailer, Jan Dolski wakes up to find many different versions of himself. Although there is some horror to finding a bunch of your dopplegangers, it's more of a surreal and dramatic story rather than one that is scary. This story will explore your interactions and choices and the result of said actions will surely vary across different playthroughs.
While there is no gameplay footage yet, The Alters will launch on PC at some point in the future. No console launches have been announced thus far, but rest assured, we will inform you when more information comes up. If you want to learn a bit more about The Alters, check out its official website or take a look at the game's Steam page.
