Update June 23rd 10:36AM - Cold Iron Studios has released a new trailer confirming that its game's new name is Aliens: Fireteam Elite. The new trailer shows off some of the game's visuals and gameplay and also confirms the release window of "August 2021", although it stops short of declaring an actual date. Original story follows below.

Original story: Good news if you've been awaiting some co-op xeno-blasting action: the Aliens: Fireteam release date may have just been leaked, along with a potential name change for the game, if a Best Buy listing is to be believed.

What is the Aliens: Fireteam release date?

The Best Buy listing was first spotted by gaming analyst Wario64 on Twitter. The game's name appears to have been changed to Aliens: Fireteam Elite, and the listing shows a release date of August 24th across all versions. It's available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Xbox platforms, with the PS4 version offering a free upgrade to PS5 and the Xbox version being compatible with Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-ordering the game will set you back $39.99.

The Aliens: Fireteam release date seems to be set for August 24th.

It's worth noting that none of the official Aliens: Fireteam pages have yet been updated with the new name change or release date, including the website, the Steam page, and the official Twitter account. The name change isn't an error on Best Buy's part, however, as it's accompanied by box art bearing the game's new name. It's likely we'll get an announcement regarding the release date and the updated name soon, possibly even today, so stay tuned for that.

What is Aliens: Fireteam Elite?

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a new co-op shooter set in the Aliens universe. It'll be the inaugural project for developer Cold Iron Studios, a California-based outfit originally founded back in 2015. Fireteam Elite will allow you to choose from five classes and team up with two allies to take on its campaign. These allies can either be player- or AI-controlled, although there's no local multiplayer support. Cold Iron says it's planning to release post-launch DLC, but that Aliens: Fireteam won't contain microtransactions or loot boxes.

It looks like we'll be hearing more about Aliens: Fireteam Elite shortly, so we'll bring you more as soon as we get it. Aliens: Fireteam Elite launches on August 24th for PC, PlayStation consoles, and Xbox platforms. Digital pre-orders aren't open yet, but you can wishlist Fireteam on Steam right now.
