Aeterna Noctis

Aeternum Game Studios and PlayStation have just revealed that 2D Metroidvania Aeterna Noctis will be releasing on December 15th on last and current-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles, the Nintendo Switch, Steam, and the Epic Games Store for $29.99. That's sandwiched right between Metroid: Dread that's releasing on October 9, 2021 and RWBY: Arrowfell, which is coming out sometime in 2022, so if you like Metroidvanias you'll have a lot to look forward to, as soon as you finish Axiom Verge 2.

Aeterna Noctis focuses on the King of Darkness and his unending crusade against the Queen of Light for the throne of Aeterna. This is because both King and Queen were cursed with immortality and sentenced to fight each other until the end of days, which sounds pretty boring after a while. I mean, fighting an unending war probably starts to lose its appeal eventually, right? Well, I guess we'll find out in December.

Anyways, players will be able to go through 16 levels, with each level "full of dangers" and each zone more different than the rest, which I can't really disagree with going by the trailer. It looks pretty trippy. Not in a bad way, but the bright colors and different zones did catch my eye, which is saying something considering I've never gotten into Metroidvanias.

There are also more than 100 enemies with 20 bosses and dozens of puzzles for players to bend their minds over. You'll be able to explore the game world of Aeterna in a non-linear way as well. You're encouraged to approach situations and challenges differently as you gain experience and new skills, so don't be afraid to experiment.

Aeterna Noctis will be releasing on December 15th on last and current-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles, the Nintendo Switch, Steam, and the Epic Games Store for $29.99. If you're interested in more you can wishlist the game on Steam.
