Japanese developer Acquire has announced Adventure Academia: The Fractured Continent, a cutesy chibi strategy RPG set in the world of the Class of Heroes series. It's currently set to launch for PC later this year, with PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch versions also planned.

What is Adventure Academia: The Fractured Continent?

Unlike the main Class of Heroes series, which incorporates dungeon crawling akin to the latter-period Wizardry games, the newly-announced Adventure Academia: The Fractured Continent is all strategy RPG, all the time. Aesthetically, it's not dissimilar to the Switch-exclusive Disgaea 6 (and it's also getting a Switch release), but the gameplay looks a little less complex. You play as a group of students from one of the world of Pedra's four academies, and it's up to you to find out why the world is gradually turning into a dungeon and spewing forth monsters. You can check out the announcement trailer for Adventure Academia: The Fractured Continent right here.

Gameplay-wise, Adventure Academia will let you mix and match races and traits to create your own squad of students. Races include Human (naturally), Elf, and Dwarf, with some more out-there options like Felpurr and Bahamoon also available. The strategy gameplay will involve pinching your squad of students to guide them into monsters to attack, as well as to get them out of harm's way. As you might expect, there's also an extremely anime story to enjoy, with protagonist Alex journeying across the land of Pedra accompanied by his childhood friend and dorky advisor (because aren't they always).

When is the Adventure Academia: The Fractured Continent release date?

You'll be able to get your hands on Adventure Academia when it launches later this year. The game is landing on Steam on September 7th. We don't actually have official confirmation that this will also be the date for the PS4 and Switch versions yet, though. Presumably due to a mistake, the Steam page for Adventure Academia says that the game is not available in English, but the screenshots provided on the Steam page (as well as the above trailer) clearly show the dialogue and menus in full English. It's safe to assume you'll be able to play a fully translated version of this game in September.

You'll need to "pinch" your students around the battlefield in Adventure Academia: Fractured Continent in order to defeat its monstrous threats.

Adventure Academia: The Fractured Continent is due to launch on September 7th, with a Japanese release for PS4 and Switch planned for September 8th. It's not clear whether the Western console versions of the game will also launch on this date (or whether the console versions will come to the West at all, in fact). In the meantime, you can add the game to your Steam wishlist if you want to. If you love Fire Emblem: Three Houses like we do, then Adventure Academia should definitely be on your radar.
