Tokyo RPG Factory's upcoming action RPG Oninaki has a Japanese release date. The game will launch for PS4 and Nintendo Switch on August 22nd. A PC version will follow in the future, although publisher Square Enix hasn't yet announced a concrete date for this platform.
Oninaki casts players as Kagachi, a Watcher with the power to manifest the souls of spirits called Daemons. Kagachimust moves between the Living World and the "Beyond" in order to save the souls of the Lost. Daemons act as Oninaki's class system, with players able to switch between classes during combat in real time. Each Daemon has its own weapons and skills to master, making Oninaki a game about choice and strategy in the heat of battle. The game's being produced by Chrono Trigger director Takashi Tokita. Check out the new trailer for Oninaki's Daemon system below:
The trailer shows off five different Daemons: Aisha, Wil, Zaav, Izana, and Dia. Aisha is a balanced sword specialist who can dash to dodge. Wil specializes in heavy axes and can block attacks. Zaav is a spear user with excellent range and gap-closing potential. Izana's scythes are good for group-based combat and Dia's "shotbolts" keep enemies at a distance. You'll be able to switch between these Daemons and more on the fly, with each combat encounter demanding a different approach.
Oninaki launches for PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam this summer in the West. Tokyo RPG Factory and publisher Square Enix have also announced purchase bonuses for Japan. It's not clear whether Western buyers will get these bonuses too. Nintendo eShop and Steam bonuses are yet to be revealed. Here's what Japanese consumers can expect:
