Project Scorpio is going to be the next iteration of Xbox that was officially announced at Microsoft's E3 2016 conference, early reports say that the Scorpio will be four times as powerful as the original Xbox One. At the time Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, explained that "all games and accessories will support all versions of the Xbox One" Greenberg explained that this wouldn't be the case for VR-only games for the Scorpio.

With the Project Scorpio Microsoft's plan is to deliver "high-fidelity VR" separating it from regular Xbox games, this is their main reason for separating it from what the normal Xbox One can perform. What Spencer meant was that the core gaming will continue to be supported on both, meaning there won't be any normal games that are Scorpio exclusives. Greenburg's comments show that even with that proviso and the closer Xbox One and Windows 10 relationship, they are looking at ways to differentiate each platform some and using different technologies to do so.

Greenberg then went on to explain that when Microsoft talks about a future without console generations they mean that they want to be able to build up a library of games and features and then continue to improve the hardware without taking anything away from the players.

This isn't a new generation; everything you have continues forward and it works. We think of this as a family of devices.

While there was hesitation to talk about the gap in sales between the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One it was reported that sales are still healthy and that Xbox One usage went up 18% during July alone.
