11 Bit Studios has announced that This War of Mine will be available to play for free on Steam until Sunday, April 8, 2018, as part of a celebration for the upcoming debut of their new game Frostpunk via a news post on the game's Steam Community page.
This War of Mine is a game that's all about war, but not in the way that we usually think of things. While most war games have you playing as soldiers or commanders in the field controlling an army, This War of Mine has you playing as one of the unfortunate civilians who happen to be caught in the crossfire. Multiple scenarios for the game are available, and you'll typically have to do your best to scrounge up whatever usable goods that you can in order to keep everyone healthy and alive when supplies are running short and safety comes at a premium. Check out our review to see what it's like to try to survive in a war zone as a regular Joe.
The game is temporarily available to play for free in celebration of the upcoming release of 11 Bit Studios' Frostpunk. Originally slated for a 2017 release, Frostpunk was later delayed until sometime in Early 2018. The game has since gotten a confirmed release date of April 24, 2018. Frostpunk is set in an alternate-history 19th century where things are a wee bit chillier than we're used to. This city-management game has you trying your damnedest to keep your population alive in harsh conditions. (Man, 11 Bit Studios really excels at making depressing games.)
You can play This War of Mine for free on Steam until April 8, 2018. If you enjoy your time with the game, you can buy it at a 70% discount for $5.99 or your regional equivalent. As for Frostpunk, you can add it to your Steam wishlist in advance of its planned release on April 24, 2018, and stay tuned for our coverage of the game as it approaches release.
