Shadowrun Hong Kong

While we were at Gen Con 2015 to talk tabletop, we did manage to stop by Harebrained Scheme's booth and talk to them about their tabletop offerings like Golem Arcana and Battletech, but squeezed in a few minutes to talk about their upcoming RPG Shadowrun: Hong Kong.

Shadowrun: Hong Kong is the sequel to Shadowrun Returns and Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut that was crowdfunded back in January. They raised 1.2 million dollars to help co-fund the game and add in all sorts of new improvements for this newest entry to their series based on the wildly popular pen and paper RPG. Shadowrun: Hong Kong is to be the first in the series developed solely for PC, unlike the others which had been simultaneously designed for tablets.

While Shadowrun Returns: Dead Man's Switch was given a lukewarm reception, with praise on parts and a lot of criticism in others, Harebrained Schemes took that criticism and expanded their previously planned Berlin DLC into what would become Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut. When Shadowrun: Dragonfall was released as an expansion it was directly addressing many of the complaints fans had of Shadowrun Returns and it got a much better reception for less linearity, better design and overall being a better game while returning the strengths of Dead Man's Switch. The Director's Cut followed later to give Dragonfall a standalone release.

Shadowrun: Hong Kong continues that tradition from Harebrained Schemes as they have lined up a series of remaining complaints from those that weren't possible to fix in Dragonfall. Things like the matrix and various other systems are set to get overhauls, along with things like User Interface to make the game a better experience as well as a deeper RPG.

So take a listen to Mike McCain, the game's director, talk with our own Rutledge Daugette at Gen Con about what's new in Shadowrun: Hong Kong!
