E3 2016 - Interview with Limited Run Games

Published: June 21, 2016 8:54 PM /

This year during E3, we managed to have the chance to interview one of the hottest new companies on the block: Limited Run Games! Limited Run Games was launched as an extension of Mighty Rabbit Studios when they decided that they wanted to release physical copies of their titles. However, their hope was always that they could move onto publishing and distributing other previously digital-only titles.

Just recently announcing some huge collaborations with both Sekai Project and Vlambeer to bring limited physical runs of their titles to the masses, the company is growing at a fantastically huge rate! Some of the things we ended up discussing in our interview included their initial thoughts when founding the company, their successes so far, their hopes for the future, and the possibility for certain highly-discussed potential projects for the future. Additionally, we talked at large about the PlayStation Vita in general (far more than Sony did).

Perhaps the biggest thing we talked about during the interview was Limited Run Games' largest partnership yet; not only is Limited Run Games handling the publishing of physical Vita copies of Sekai Project's title, but their parent company - Mighty Rabbit Studios - is handling the porting job of RenPy to Unity! What's especially interesting about that last bit, is once the engine is ported, it should be compatible with every system that can run Unity - including New 3DS, Vita, Wii U, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and more.

We had a great time talking with the Limited Run Games team, and we hope you guys enjoy our discussion. Personally, I just find what they're doing one of the coolest things in the industry right now. As great as digital releases are for some platforms, for others - like the Vita - other factors can just make it a pain. It's great to see companies out there that are trying their best to keep physical releases of games a reality.
