Video Game Releases for January 2019: Kingdom Hearts III (Plus Other Stuff)

With the holiday period over publishers are slowing down on releases to account for the postseason slump. However, that doesn't mean there isn't anything to whet your gaming appetite, with a few big hitters still coming out this January.

January 10th

Sega Ages: Out Run (Nintendo Switch)

One of Sega's most popular releases of all time Sega Ages: Out Run is a version of Out Run set to release on Nintendo Switch on January 10th. This is not a remaster of any kind, simply a port of Sega Classic Out Run available soon on Switch.

Aftercharge (Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch)

A sports style tactical game with a twist Aftercharge comes to Microsoft Windows, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on January 10th. This is a 3 v 3 game.

Double Cross (Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch)

New platformer Double Cross comes to Microsoft Windows and Nintendo Switch on January 10th. Using different kinds of gear you platform your way to the end.

January 11th

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition (Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch)

An updated version of Tales of Vesperia will be released under the title Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One on January 11th. As well as updated resolution and sound, this version also includes additional content that has never previously been released outside of Japan.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Story (Nintendo 3DS)

A remake of the Mario RPG game Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Story will release on Nintendo 3DS on January 11th. The new mode Bowser Jr's Story is completely new to the series and tells the behind the scenes story.

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe (Nintendo Switch)

Another remake of a classic Wii U game, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe comes to Nintendo Switch on January 11th. This follows the success of other popular Wii U titles being updated and released on the Switch such as Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, and Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker.

 

January 15th

The Walking Dead: A Telltale Series - The Final Season: Episode 3 - Broken Toys (Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch)

While Telltale Games went into bankruptcy earlier this year, The Walking Dead: A Telltale Series - The Final Season: Episode 3 - Broken Toys will release on Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on January 15th. While Telltale was working on the game right up until bankruptcy it is unclear how much of this title has been made by the original developers or the team that took over development.

Vane (PlayStation 4)

Atmospheric adventure game Vane comes to PlayStation 4 on January 15th. You are on a remote island trying to discover the secrets.

Onimusha: Warlords (Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch)

Originally released for PlayStation 2 back in 2001 Onimusha: Warlords comes out on Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on January 15th. This package includes the original game with updated graphics and an easy mode available right from the start.

January 17th

YIIK: A Post-Modern RPG (Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch)

Based on classic JRPGs YIIK: A Post-Modern RPG  comes to Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on January 17th.

January 18th

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown (Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, PlayStation 4)

The latest in the aerial combat series Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown comes to Microsoft Windows, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on January 18th. Featuring aerial dog fighting, it will also be compatible with VR devices.

Kingdom Hearts: VR Experience (PlayStation VR)

Kingdom Hearts: VR Experience is a teaser game releasing on January 18th exclusive to PlayStation VR. This free download contains just 10 minutes of footage created to immerse you in the Kingdom Hearts universe prior to this month's big release.

Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes (Nintendo Switch)

The latest in the No More Heroes franchise since 2010

Coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes will be released on January 18th. A sequel to 2010's No More Heroes 2 and created by legendary game developer Suda 51 players can take Travis on another murder rich adventure.

January 19th

Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet Complete Edition (Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, PlayStation 4)

With the release of the final piece of DLC Dissonance of the NexusSword Art Online: Fatal Bullet Complete Edition will be released for Microsoft Windows, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on January 19th. It will include the new, and 2 previously releases DLC packs and is also expected to be released for Nintendo Switch in Q3.

January 22nd

Senran Kagura Burst Re:newal (Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4)

A 3D remake of the original Senran Kagura Burst, Senran Kagura Burst Re:newal will come to Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 4 on January 22nd. This is a brawler with a selectable cast of several different well-endowed women.

January 24th

Life is Strange 2: Episode 2 - Rules (Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, PlayStation 4)

Following the release of the initial episode this year, Life is Strange 2: Episode 2 - Rules comes to Microsoft Windows, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on January 24th. Unlike the original release, you play as a pair of brothers.

January 25th

Resident Evil 2 (Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, PlayStation 4)

The second mainline series remaster for Resident Evil.

Following both the success of the original Resident Evil remake, and the popularity of Resident Evil 7, a remake of the second Resident Evil game also titled Resident Evil 2 will come to Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 25th.

January 29th

Kingdom Hearts III (Xbox One, PlayStation 4)

One of the most long-awaited sequels in gaming's history Kingdom Hearts III will come to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on January 29th. It will feature all new worlds from Disney's vast library such as Toy Story and Monsters Inc.

January 31st

Sunless Skies (Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, Linux)

Indie horror game Sunless Skies comes to Microsoft Windows, Mac OS and Linux on January 31st. It's the sequel to Sunless Sea.
