V Rising Base Building Outer Walls

V Rising allows you to create your own Castle, which functions as your base of operations. A Castle allows you to hide from the searing light of the sun, securely store your possessions, and generally look cool. From a humble perimeter of palisades to a great stately castle, this is the guide to building in V Rising. Aesthetics not included. Be sure to visit the guide hub for the latest strategies, or continue on for our V Rising Building guide!

V Rising: Choosing Where to Build Castles

Where you set up your Castle will affect your experience. It can't be too close to the main roads or intersect with certain terrain, and you don't want to set up shop right next to somebody else, especially on a PvP server. On a private server, you can build wherever sparks joy. Public servers will require you to do more scouting and hope that someone hasn't already snapped up the real estate. A third-tier Castle Heart allows you to claim 150 spaces, so you can eventually build a sizable castle. When putting up your Castle Heart for the first time, it will analyze how efficient it is to help you determine where to place it.

Your first phase of building a Castle is thus to do some exploration. Harvest resources as you go so when you find your spot you can start building right away. When opening the map, you may see some areas outlined in yellow. These represent camps, cemeteries, and other places where you can acquire resources. Hover over the area to see what they offer: settlements often have man made goods such as Coarse Thread and Leather. Cemeteries carry Bones and Mourning Lilies. Areas without anything nearby tend to offer Timber and Stone in abundance.

There are a number of little hills and winding paths that make decent spots for your castles. While defensible, it's likely you'll have less space to build, and these spots tend to go rather quickly. Water can serve as a natural barrier to many threats, so even a small pond can help you save on defenses. The farther you journey from the spawn point, the more dangerous the enemies. By extension, it's more likely to be deserted. Pick a spot that's fairly close to your resources but that also gives you room to expand.

V Rising Setting Borders
Step one on your base-building journey is to create your Castle Heart and Borders.

V Rising: Your First Base

The first things you'll need to build are Borders and a Castle Heart. Borders define your territory, preventing other players from building there. The Heart serves as the nexus for your Castle's power and prevents it from decaying. Power it using Blood Essence, which drops from creatures you kill. Slot it into the station with a right-click, and keep it fueled!

Follow the tutorial and build some Palisades to enclose your base. If daylight is approaching, don't forget to build a Mist Brazier. Fill it with Bones to block out the sun so you can work in peace. Each Bone you burn provides a minute of safety.

Right now, you're quite vulnerable to other players taking your supplies. Continue to progress in the tutorial until it asks you to build a Castle proper. This will require you to field 6 Planks and 10 Stone Bricks per wall, so collect as much Timber and Stone as possible. You'll need extra Bricks to create the Floors, too. Convert the raw materials using the Sawmill and Grinder, respectively.

Building the first castle walls will take a while to process, so you may wish to build more of those crafting stations to speed things along. While you do this, expand your territory and upgrade your Castle Heart to acquire more building space. Steadily move your Palisades outwards to encircle your Castle, or demolish them for extra Timber.

Once you've completed the Floors and Walls and enclosed the room, it will automatically construct a ceiling as well. This will protect you from the sun without using the Mist Brazier. The doors prevent others from coming in and looting the place so long as they're closed. Servants won't open or close the door, either, preventing an unfortunate mishap. Move your crafting stations inside to increase their production speed and keep them safe.

Keep your Castle Heart fueled to prevent your Castle from crumbling.

V Rising: Expanding Your Base

From here on in, it's smooth sailing. Continue to expand your base with Castle Walls and slowly extend your Borders to encompass more of the region. It's easiest to build outward in a square pattern , but depending on your prior location and tastes this may not be as feasible.

Remember that reclaiming the materials used in construction are reduced as the structure stands, so try to get the edges right the first time. This is the point where you can truly begin decorating and adding rooms and corridors. It's also why picking such a prime location is so important: you can easily run out of room in a crowded neighborhood.

Be sure to make nice with the neighbors! There's enough room for all the bloodsucking parasites. For more V Rising content, be sure to visit our guide hub with all the latest information, or check out the guides below:
