Tears of the Kingdom puts a lot of challenges in front of a player. From the hidden secrets and challenging boss fights, to the natural phenomenon that are plaguing the denizens of the world Link needs to be prepared. Early on you might find that your armor just isn't cutting it and because of that you'll need an upgrade. In this Tears of the Kingdom Unlock All Fairy Fountain Guide we'll show you how to locate and unlock every Fairy Fountain in Hyrule.

What do the Great Fairies do in Tears of the Kingdom?

Unlocking Great Fairy will allow you to upgrade your outfits. Each Fairy that you unlock will allow you to power up a piece of clothing even more. These upgrades will require different collected components from around Hyrule, as well as Rupees, but for the amount of damage you'll be able to reduce these upgrades are worth it. With a single Fairy unlocked you can power up your equipment once, but with all unlocked you can power them up four times. Certain outfits also will grant special set bonuses as they reach higher levels activating when you wear all pieces of the equipment at the same time.

You can upgrade almost every piece of equipment including the various outfits that reference previous Legend of Zelda games such as Tingle's Hood, the Champion's Tunic, and an Ocarina of Time Ganondorf outfit.

What prerequisites are there to start unlocking Fairy Fountains?

The first thing that is required to start unlocking Fairy Fountains is that Link needs to be a member of the Lucky Clover Gazette. You can travel to the Rito Village in the Tabantha Hills (North-West region of the map) and visit the Lucky Clover Gazette offices in what is a converted stable.

Another prerequisite is that you'll need the Towing anchor for your horse or the ability to create and power vehicles capable of towing. To earn the Towing Anchor for your horse you simply need to earn 3 Pony Points. You earn a Pony Point by registering a horse, or visiting a new stable so you should obtain this pretty quickly. A horse is needed for this questline so register a good one.

Where are the Fairy Fountains in Tears of the Kingdom?

There are four different Great Fairies across Hyrule, their names are Tera, Mija, Cotera, and Kaysa. Unlike Breath of the Wild, each of the Fairies in Tears of the Kingdom requires more than just rupees to come out of their bulbs. Each will want to hear a different instrument played as part of the questline.

You need to unlock Great Fairy Tera first, after that you can complete any of the other Great Fairies in any order. Unlocking Great Fairy Tera will also put the other Great Fairy on your map!

How to unlock the Eldin Great Fairy Fountain? (Required to do first)

A map showing significant parts of the Fairy Fountain Mission

The Eldin Great Fairy Fountain is located just South-East of the Great Hyrule Woods. You can reach it quickly by teleporting to the Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower. When you approach it Great Fairy Tera will speak with you mentioning multiple times that she wants to hear a violin play

[...] Oh! I'll never hear a musical troupe pass by again, and the sweet notes of its violin player…
I'm staying sealed up in my flower bud for the rest of eternity - or until I hear a violin in the world once more! [...] But now, until I hear a violin played by a musician in a troupe… I can't bear the thought of ever going outside ever again.

After talking with the Great Fairy Tera head South down the road until you reach the Woodland Stable. Here you'll see a performing troupe outside. Talking to Mastro you'll learn that the wheel of their cart, named Breezer, is missing. Fix the wheels with nearby parts and tell the troupe that you'll take them to the Fairy. Get your horse and attach the towing harness and bring them up the hill.

Once you reach the top of the hill a cutscene will play and Great Fairy Tera will appear. You'll obtain a Purple Rupee and will be able to start upgrading your armor.

How to unlock the Faron Great Fairy Fountain?

A map showing significant parts of the Fairy Fountain Cotera Mission

The Faron Great Fairy Fountain is located just to the East of the Dueling Peaks and South from the Dueling Peaks Stable.

Head to Dueling Peaks Stable and you'll find Mastro there. Speak with him to learn that the Great Fairy Cotera would listen to Beetz's drum playing but that he isn't there anymore. He states that someone heard drum playing to the North near Kakariko Village and Bonooru's Stand.

Head North until you reach the location marked on the map, you'll also start hearing drum music, talk to Beetz to learn he's looking to get some honey to make Mastro crepes. Head to the forest East of Kakariko village, near where the large chasm is, pick up three chunks of honey, and return to Beetz. You'll also obtain a Silver Rupee.

Return to the Dueling Peaks Stable and speak with Mastro who will tell you the bridge is broken and that we instead need to cross the river. Create a watercraft that will allow you to carry all of the troupe across the river.

When you get close enough a cutscene will initiate where music will be played to the Great Fairy Cotera who will appear. Not only will you now be able to upgrade your equipment further but you'll also get a reward of a Silver Rupee.

How to unlock the Hyrule Field Great Fairy Fountain?

A map showing significant parts of the Fairy Fountain Kaysa Mission

The Hyrule Field Great Fairy Fountain is in the South-West of Hyrule Field just on the edge of the Gerudo area.

Head to the Outskirt Stable and you'll find Mastro there.  Speaking with him you'll learn that Great Fairy Kaysa would listen to Pyper's flute playing but that he isn't there anymore. Mastro states that someone near the Highland Stable heard the sound of flute playing.

Head South-East to reach Highland Stable at the point marked on the map and you'll find Pyper playing in a tree. Talking with him he'll tell you he needs to collect 10 Sunset Fireflies to make a glowing tree. Search the forest to the North at night time to obtain the Sunset Fireflies. You can walk and catch them, but if you run towards them they'll run away. Return to Pyper and give him the fireflies. Go inside the stable and talk to Haite before leading her to the tree at night. After a short cutscene Pyper will return to the troupe.

Return to the Outskirt Stable and speak with Mastro to hear that the way to the Great Fairy Fountain has been blocked by a rockslide. Attach Breezer to a large four-wheeled vehicle to bring it up to the Fairy Fountain.

When you get close enough a cutscene will initiate where music will be players to the Great Fairy Kaysa. Now you'll be able to upgrade your equipment once again and you'll also earn a Silver Rupee.

How to unlock the Hebra Great Fairy Fountain

A map showing significant parts of the Fairy Fountain Miju Mission

The Hebra Great Fairy Fountain is in the North of the map to the East of the Hebra Mountains. You'll see it's on the Eastern mountain face from Pikida Stonegrove Skyview Tower.

Head to the Snowfield Stable and you'll find Mastro there. Speaking with him you'll learn that Great Fairy Mija would listen to Eustus's horn playing but that he isn't around anymore. Mastro states that someone near Tabantha Bridge Stable to the south heard a sound like a horn.

Head South-West down the path until you reach a hole on the side of the road at the point marked on the map, inside the hole you'll fine Eustus. He will need to escape the hole with his wagon, speak with him again to have him get in the Wagon. I found the easiest way to get him our of the hold was to lift up the wagon and place it down, climb to the mouth of the hole, and then use Recall to move the wagon back to a place where I could grab it. After saving Eustus he will hand you 3x Courser Bee Honey and return to the Snowfield Stable.

Return to Snowfield Stable and speak with Mastro to hear that the Trotter needs a roof. Use the nearby wood to create a roof and bring the Stable Trotters to the Fairy in the North-East. The roof doesn't need to be anything special, just drop one of the largest palettes on the top and talk to Mastro again.

The path to get the Trotter to the Great Fairy Fountain is very ice so you might want to prioritize a strong horse or creating a fast/all-terrain vehicle to bring them troup up.

When you get close enough a cutscene will initiate where music will be players to the Great Fairy Mija. Now you'll be able to upgrade your equipment once again and you'll also earn a Silver Rupee.
