This STALKER 2 The Poppy Field Mission Walkthrough tells you where to find the Orthodox Icon and whether you should sell it to Pomor or return it to Mityay.
The world of STALKER 2 is not just filled with wondrous artifacts — there are also large-scale anomalies on the map that can make exploring extremely hazardous. One of those anamolies is the Poppy Field, and this guide will tell you how to survive it and complete The Poppy Field Mission.
How to Get the STALKER 2 The Poppy Field Mission
You can get the STALKER 2 The Poppy Field mission by heading into Hamster's shop in Zalissya on the northeast side of the intersection. You'll find a man named Mityay trying to convince a Stalker to take on a job and being rebuffed. Speak with Mityay and you'll be able to take on The Poppy Field Mission.
STALKER 2 The Poppy Field Mission Walkthrough
Now that you know where to find this mission, it's time to get into our STALKER 2 The Poppy Field Mission Walkthrough! Read on to learn how to complete this mission and where to find the Orthodox Icon.
Preparing for the Poppy Field
The Poppy Field mission itself isn't all that difficult, despite the dangers; you should be fine as long as you have a couple of energy drinks. (Frankly, you won't even need them if you run directly to the Root Cellar where the Religious Icon is; we have the location marked on a map further on in this guide!)
However, there are several opportunities for combat along the way. You'll definitely want to make sure that you have a good gun and a fair amount of healing supplies with you. You never know what can happen if you encounter mutants or bandits!
Traveling to the Poppy Field
If you take a direct route to the Poppy Field from Zalissya, you'll come across two points of interest, one marked and one unmarked.
The marked location is Pol Depot. This is a large industrial complex with some radiation and some bandits. You can easily avoid them if you wish, but there's always the risk of combat. You can always hit this location up on the way back if you want to have a fight.
The second location is a small farm to the west of Pol Depot. You'll hear some roars and gunshots; one Stalker has been killed by mutants and another Stalker has hidden inside. The dead Stalker on the ground outside has the coordinates for the Poppy Field stash in his PDA; you may as well grab it since you're heading there anyway.
Meeting with Pomor
As you get closer to the Poppy Field, you'll hear a transmission over the radio from a Stalker named Pomor. Pomor is located in one of the houses right on the border of the Poppy Field. Make sure to save your game before entering the Poppy Field!
Pomor earns Coupons by looting the bodies of dead Stalkers who perished in the Poppy Field. He'll tell you the location of the Orthodox Icon, but in exchange, he wants one of two things:
- 2,000 Coupons
- Loot the bodies of several dead Stalkers in the Poppy Field for him
The Stalkers don't have much in the way of useful loot (aside from a little 5.45x39mm PS ammo), so it's not worth selecting this option. And it's definitely not worth giving the 2,000 Coupons to Pomor, either. Ignore Pomor's offer for now and you can head directly to the Root Cellar by using our map below.
Where is the Orthodox Icon in STALKER 2?
You can find the Orthodox Icon in the Root Cellar at the location marked in the map below by a yellow dot for the STALKER 2 The Poppy Field Mission:
Remember, the Poppy Field can kill you in approximately 2 minutes if you stay in there for too long. Get in, get the Religious Icon, and get out!
Should You Sell the Orthodox Icon to Pomor in STALKER 2?
No, you should not sell the Orthodox Icon to Pomor in STALKER 2. Here's why:
If you sell the Orthodox Icon to Pomor, you'll get the Unknown Stalker's AR416. This is an AR416 with a single modification (a foregrip) and very low condition (around 10%). You can't sell it because it's so busted, and you will have a hard time finding ammo for it in the Lesser Zone.
It's not an exceptional AR416, either; you'll be able to find more of them in later regions. Besides, the unique AK-74S that you can get at the start of the game is a better gun overall, anyway.
On the other hand, returning the Orthodox Icon to Mityay will net you 1,000 Coupons. Coupons are much more useful in the early stages of the game — it's not always easy to earn Coupons.
As an aside, you can also kill Pomor if you wish. You'll be able to get the rifle and the key to his private room which has a small amount of loot in it. That said, STALKER 2 is a game about choices and consequences, and we don't yet know what long-term consequences there may be to killing Pomor. It may not be worth it to kill an otherwise friendly character for so little loot.
What Happens if You Stay in the Poppy Field for Too Long?
If you stay in the Poppy Field for too long, you will eventually fall asleep and get teleported to a random location somewhere within the Poppy Field. After around 1 and a half to 2 minutes, you'll immediately pass out and die. Suffice it to say, don't stay in the Poppy Field any longer than you need to!
