Our STALKER 2 A Light in the End of the Tunnel Mission Walkthrough tells you how to find Peat at the Old Checkpoint and how to get the Portable Psi Installation out of the Abandoned Tunnel.

Some of the side missions in STALKER 2 can be as challenging as the main missions. They can be a good way to make money or find rare artifacts, but one of these missions is particularly challenging. Read on for our walkthrough on the side mission A Light in the End of the Tunnel!

How to Get the STALKER 2 A Light in the End of the Tunnel Mission

You can get the mission A Light in the End of the Tunnel by going to Quiet's Camp and talking to the trader Quiet. You'll have an option to take on a mission for him. You can get to Quiet's camp by heading south of Noontide or by going approximately 500 meters directly east from Zalissya.

Buckle up for a long one — our STALKER 2 A Light in the End of the Tunnel mission walkthrough is going to cover every step of a fairly lengthy (and occasionally confusing) side mission that you can get after you leave the Lesser Zone.

Preparing for Your Journey

The mission A Light in the End of the Tunnel consists of going through two areas that are heavily infested with enemies. There is a break in between the two and you'll be able to resupply, but both areas are tough fights nonetheless. Be prepared to take on at least a dozen bandit-level enemies or more, plus some mutants.

Searching the Old Checkpoint

Your first stop will be to head to the Old Checkpoint. You'll likely encounter some soldiers here; dispatch them and loot the area while you search for Peat. Unfortunately, it does not appear that he is anywhere to be seen.

Where is Peat?

Peat is not actually located at the Old Checkpoint. However, one of the upper floors has a chair with ropes on it and blood on the ground. Search this room and you'll find a tape recorder on a desk:

This tiny tape recorder will get you to your next objective.

This will give you your next objective: heading to Rookie Village to look for clues.

It's very important not to head too far south toward the wall. If you get too close, you will be instantly killed by a sniper. Avoid the area entirely.

Going to the Rookie Village

Your next stop is Rookie Village, a small town of dilapidated houses that is largely populated by newer Stalkers who are just getting their start. You can talk to multiple people to search for clues, but your best bet is to go straight to the medic.

Ask the medic about Peat and he'll tell you that Peat is lying on a bed in the building. Peat will simply repeat the same numbers over and over again; this is the code for the door to get into the Abandoned Tunnel.

Resupplying at Rookie Village

Before you leave for the Abandoned Tunnel, you'll want to offload your loot and resupply your ammo. You're going to have to fight some zombies and a couple of mutants, so you'll want to have ample ammo, healing supplies, and a bit of food.

When you're ready to move, head out to the Abandoned Tunnel.

Exploring the Abandoned Tunnel

Enter the code that you got from Peat into the door of the Abandoned Tunnel. You'll have to face off against quite a few zombies along the way, but they're not too difficult to deal with.

Continue heading deeper until you reach this point:

Getting Past the Locked Door

A short distance into the Abandoned Tunnel, you'll encounter a locked door. You'll need to head through this door to get to your objective.

Before you head into this area, be aware that this door will lock behind you. You will be committed to exiting the tunnel through another passage, and that will require fighting at least one powerful mutant. Save before you go through this door, and make sure you're ready for combat.

The button you need to push can be found in the alcove to the right of the door:

Push the button and the locked door will open. Head through and you'll be much closer to the Portable Psi Emitter.

Getting the Portable Psi Installation and Killing a Poltergeist

The area past the locked door in the Abandoned Tunnel is much more dangerous. You'll have to use your parkour skills to navigate around the terrain and get toward the Psi Emitter.

Eventually, you'll see the Portable Psi Installation sitting in a train car:

Unfortunately, you won't be able to pick it up just yet — something is keeping the Portable Psi Emitter powered. The room to the left in the above image has a Poltergeist in it, and you'll have to kill it.

Poltergeists attack by using psychic powers to throw objects at you. On the upside, the room it inhabits has plenty of cover. On the downside, there are electrical environmental hazards sprinkled throughout the room, so it's very easy to accidentally walk into one and take damage.

Make a save before heading into the room, then kill the Poltergeist. Listen carefully for the sound of it picking up an object, look for the object, and take cover to prevent it from hitting you. You have enough room to move around that you should be able to avoid taking much damage through the smart use of cover.

Escaping with the Portable Psi Installation

Now it's time to grab the Portable Psi Installation and escape with it. Pick it up, then continue walking through the train car. Nearby, you'll find another path that leads toward the exit.

As you head down this path, you'll eventually encounter a tunnel that is full of toxic gas. There is a switch on the wall — activate it and it will vent the gas.

You'll then have to head down a series of ladders that will take you deeper into the ground. This leads to the exit, but there is one more battle to go. Make sure you save after going down the first ladder!

Killing the Fat Mutant

The very bottom of this chain of ladders has a fat mutant wearing an overcoat. This may be your first time encountering this type of enemy. It has four abilities:

  • It can pull your gun out of your hand
  • It can pick up your gun on the ground and shoot you with it
  • It can hit you with a psychic blast
  • It can protect itself with a psychic shield

The Fat Mutant Using a Psychic Attack in the Abandoned Tunnel in STALKER 2

You could try to run for it and make your way out of the tunnel, but it's safer to fight it. It's not too difficult once you know its attack pattern.

First and foremost, you should always pick up your gun when the mutant pulls it out of your hand. If you leave it on the ground for too long, the mutant will shoot you with your own gun and you're pretty much dead at that point.

Secondly, you should take cover when it's going to use a psychic blast. They're not too difficult to avoid since the attack is heavily telegraphed.

Finally, you should avoid attacking the mutant when its shield is up. You're not going to do any damage, so don't waste your ammo and gun durability.

Shoot the mutant when its vulnerable and it will go down in short order. There's a small amount of loot you can grab in the immediate area and on top of the hill outside by the sewer grate. Grab this stuff, then return to Rookie Village.

Returning to Sidorivich

When you get back to Rookie Village, you'll have to deliver the Portable Psi Installation to Sidorivich. Head to his shop and hand it over to him.

Unfortunately, you'll get a relative pittance for payment (especially considering all of the trouble you went through). He will, however, mention that Quiet will be getting a bonus. You can't do much about it, unfortunately, so leave the area.

Talking to Quiet About Payment

As soon as you exit Sidorivich's shop, you'll get a call from Quiet. He tells you that the payment he received was quite small. You have two choices:

  • You're getting a bonus (according to Sidorovich)
  • Sidorovich is a crook and don't deal with him

It's unclear if either of these choices will have major consequences for the story. I personally told him that he's getting a bonus; although Sidorivich didn't pay me very much, he did say that Quiet would be getting a bonus and there is no indication that he will or won't deliver.

That's the end of this mission, but you don't need to leave Rookie Village just yet — there are a few more interesting side quests available. Take them on if you need a little extra money!
