Our STALKER 2 Artifacts Guide will tell you how artifacts work, how you can increase your artifact slots, and where you can find more artifacts.
As you explore the map of STALKER 2, you'll occasionally come across an artifact. These powerful objects can give you great power as long as you know how to use them wisely. Read on to learn everything you need to know about artifacts!
How STALKER 2 Artifacts Work
STALKER 2 artifacts can give you permanent, special buffs. However, these buffs often come at some kind of cost; for example, many artifacts will slowly irradiate you over time if you don't have something to counter that radiation.
For example, the Flash artifact has the effects "Electrical Protection: Weak" and "Radio: Weak." If you equip it, you'll gain a small amount of protection from electrical damage. However, you will also slowly take radiation while it's equipped.
Artifacts must be equipped in a slot in your armor. None of the effects will apply when they're sitting in your inventory. Nearly all beneficial effects also come with the downside of radiation. However, you can counter this radiation by equipping an artifact to counter radiation in your second slot to balance things out.
You can also counter some of the bad effects by only wearing an artifact when you need it. For example, there's no need to have the Flash artifact equipped to prevent electrical damage if there is no risk of electrical damage at the moment. Most artifacts only weigh around 0.5kg, so you can carry a few different ones for specific situations.
There are differing levels of effects from artifacts. Some artifacts have stronger beneficial effects and, as a consequence, stronger radiation. As you explore the map, you'll find more powerful artifacts that will likely replace the ones you're using.
How to Get Artifacts in STALKER 2
There are four ways to get Artifacts in STALKER 2:
- Scanning Anomalies: Using your artifact scanner on certain anomalies — some of which we've marked on the map below — will cause a random artifact of the same elemental type to spawn. These anomalies can be farmed after an indeterminate amount of time has passed.
- Looting Static Locations: Rarely, some places in the world will have an artifact out in the open. These can also be picked up by your scanner.
- Purchasing from Traders: Certain Traders (usually bartenders) will have one or two artifacts for sale.
- Mission Rewards: Rarely, a mission or side mission may reward you with an artifact, or you can find one along the way.
How to Get More Artifact Slots on Your Armor
There are two ways to get more artifact slots on your armor in STALKER 2:
- Upgrade your armor at a Technician
- Equip a new set of armor
Upgrading and repairing armor is quite expensive, so you should carefully consider whether you want to upgrade your current armor or get a new set of armor altogether.
How to Use the Artifact Detector
The artifact detector in STALKER 2 will tell you if an artifact is nearby, but only when you have it out and equipped. As a general rule, artifact detectors will beep when an artifact is detected nearby and the beeping will increase in frequency as you get closer to it.
We have found three types of artifact detectors, and each of them behaves differently. Here's how they work:
- Echo Detector: Beeps as you get closer to an artifact. Faster beeping indicates that you're getting closer to it. 50-meter range.
- Hilka Detector: Beeps as you get closer to an artifact, and faster beeping indicates that you're getting closer to it. Includes a range indicator to tell you how far away you are from the artifact. Has a 100-meter range, giving it an advantage over the other detectors in this respect.
- Bear Detector: Beeps as you get closer to an artifact, and faster beeping indicates that you're getting closer to it. Includes a direction indicator that shows where the artifact is and how close you are to it. 50-meter range.
- Veres Detector: Beeps as you get closer to an artifact with a 100-meter range. Has a radar that shows you the precise artifact location with a red dot along with the exact location of any nearby anomalies.
How to Get a Better Artifact Detector
There are three ways to get a better artifact detector:
- Buying it from a merchant
- Looting it from certain stashes
- Getting it as a mission reward
You can get a Hilka Detector fairly early by taking on the side mission "Budmo" at the Slag Heap in Garbage. You'll have to steal the Hilka Detector from one of the three stashes that you are supposed to resupply, though.
The Bear Detector is much better, and you can get it without having to steal from anyone. Progress the story missions until you need to get to Noontide's base on Noon's Island and you'll meet Professor Lodochka. He'll have a side mission for you called "A Sign of Hope." Complete it, and he'll give you the Bear Detector as a reward.
You'll have another opportunity to upgrade your artifact detector once you've progressed through the story some more. Completing an optional objective in the main story mission "In Search of Past Glory" will get you the Veres Detector as a reward, giving you the ability to see the precise location of anomalies in front of you.
STALKER 2 Anomaly Locations Map
This STALKER 2 Anomaly Locations map shows all of the anomaly locations we've confirmed where you can get an artifact by using a scanner. There are also a handful of spots where you can get a guaranteed specific artifact as far as we can tell; those are noted on the map as well.
STALKER 2 Artifacts List | Where to Find Artifacts
Here is a list of all of the STALKER 2 artifacts we've found and where you can find them. All artifacts are randomly acquired at the appropriate anomaly type. A handful of artifacts have static locations where you may be able to get them as a guaranteed drop; these are noted below. (If you get a different artifact at those locations, let us know in the comments below!)
