In this guide, we'll give you a crash course on The Planet Crafter Planet Humble DLC and how this new world is different from the base game.
The Planet Crafter has been out of early access for quite some time, and the fine folks at Miju Games have decided to let you play with the same fun terraforming and crafting mechanics on a whole new world. Welcome to Planet Humble, and get ready to put your knowledge of The Planet Crafter to the test — this planet is a little different from the norm.
How the Planet Humble DLC Works
The Planet Crafter Planet Humble DLC gives you access to an entirely new planet, giving you the opportunity to terraform a whole new world with conditions different from the first planet. Most of the core gameplay is the same, but there are subtle differences in resources and Planet Humble is a much more challenging experience overall.
Happily, those of you who play co-op won't need to buy a bunch of copies of this DLC. Only the game host needs the DLC; anyone else with the base game can join without purchasing the DLC.
How The Planet Crafter Planet Humble DLC is Different from the Base Game
There are several key differences between the first planet in The Planet Crafter and Planet Humble. Here are the major ones.
A New, Smaller Planet
Obviously, the biggest major difference in the Planet Humble DLC is the fact that it takes place on a new planet. The Planet Humble map is much smaller than The Planet Crafter map; the developers estimate that it is about half as large as the base game.
These unfamiliar locations have their fair share of mysteries for you to uncover — there are ore caves, wrecked equipment, and environmental hazards to hinder your progress (or aid it). And, of course, the whole landscape will gradually change as you terraform the world.
New Ores and the Ore Crusher
All of the original base ores are here, but you don't quite get them in the same way. There are four new resources: Bauxite, Dolemite, Uraninite, and Cosmic Quartz. These new resources are largely useless on their own except for the fact that you need some of them to make Ore Crushers.
Once you've built an Ore Crusher, you can then put these new resources inside and get a mix of common resources. Dolomite, for example, can give you Cobalt, Iron, Magnesium, Silicon, and Titanium.
Critically, some of these resources (such as Cobalt) are nigh-impossible to find in the world and difficult (if not impossible) to mine with an Ore Extractor — using the Ore Crusher is the most practical way to get them on Planet Humble.
Fewer Shipwrecks
Part of the fun of The Planet Crafter is exploring massive shipwrecks. Planet Humble has them, too, but there aren't nearly as many large locations for you to explore.
Unfortunately, my trek across the world has only uncovered a paltry few shipwrecks for you to investigate. That said, there are many more crash sites and destroyed equipment on the overworld that can easily be spotted, so there's still a fair amount of loot to find out there.
More Verticality
Although the horizontal area is much smaller, Planet Humble is somewhat larger in a different way: verticality. You'll be able to climb up tall mountains and head down into deep caves and valleys as you explore the world.
Naturally, navigating these paths can prove to be quite treacherous. Take a step in the wrong direction and you can find yourself careening down a cliff with no easy way of making it back to your body. Take care when exploring!
A Greater Challenge
Ultimately, The Planet Crafter Planet Humble DLC is not for new players. It introduces new challenges (such as the need to use the Ore Crusher) that would seem unfamiliar or downright unintuitive to new players.
If you've never played The Planet Crafter before, you should work your way through the first world and learn about the core mechanics and the story of the first planet. Veteran players, however, will be able to have tons of fun using their knowledge to survive on a new planet with different challenges.
