In Metaphor: ReFantazio there are a few non-combat stats that you'll need to be actively working on. These stats are known as the Royal Virtues and will be roadblocks on your way to completing all of your Follower ranks. Achieving higher Follower ranks won't just lead to more powerful party members but will also give a variety of boons across the world of Metaphor including the chance to have free money or items sent to you, additional assistance in dungeons, and will even grant you access to the Royal Archetypes.
Royal Virtues and Follower Ranks
The Royal Virtues are as follows; Courage, Wisdom, Tolerance, Eloquence, and Imagination. When you first start the game you'll see all of these are at their first rank but there are a LOT of things to do around the world that will earn points for them so that you can level them up.
Below is a list of all Royal Virtues, their different ranks, and how many approximate points are required to achieve each. We have also included what requires you to have each of these stats so you can ensure you're leveling them all up.

As you'll earn these points in groups of 3+, most commonly 4 at a time, it could be that there is some wiggle room on the above numbers. For example, it's likely that Wisdom 5 is 110 points, but I have listed the point values where I achieved them.

Tips To Level Up Royal Virtues
There's a lot that is gatekept behind increasing each of these stats, most important of which are the different Follower ranks. Luckily there are more than enough ways to be constantly improving your Royal Virtues, many of them passively occurring as you play through the game, and for the rest you'll find you have more than enough free time to catch up on the rest.
A lot of these come from completing the side-quests that appear over the course of the game, and when you have days of travel and can read books or talk with your party members on the Gauntlet Runner that's a lot of free time to be working on these points. If you were to only count all of the Royal Virtue points that you obtain by completing main quests, side-quests, and hunts you would end up gaining the following number of points:
- Courage - 68
- Wisdom - 16
- Tolerance - 20
- Eloquence - 4
- Imagination - 32
On top of that there are:
- Eleven Coliseum fights that will each earn you 4 Courage each
- Each of the drawing locations that you visit while visiting dungeons will earn you 4 Wisdom each
Metaphor: ReFantazio Royal Virtue Tips and Tricks
Below are a list of tips that we would recommend throughout your own playthrough of Metaphor: ReFantazio to ensure you're able to max out every one of your Royal Virtues:
- Never work on your Courage stat - Make sure you're completing every Side-Quest, Hunt, and are visiting the Coliseum in Port Brilehaven to make sure you achieve Rank 5
- Level up your Royal Virtues in a balanced way - Roadblocks that require you to have a certain level normally occur around the same time in the story, Tolerance 3 and Wisdom 3 will be needed at roughly the same time so if you have one stat behind the others then spend some time leveling it up
- Read Books in the Gauntlet Runner - When new party members join they'll add books to the bookshelf in the Gauntlet Runner, each of these contributes to a different stat. Each time you read the book you'll gain 4 points for that stat, after reading the book three times you'll get an additional bonus of 4 stats for completing the book. This additional 4 only applies once for each book so you can't farm it but it's a nice bonus.
- Eloquence levels up faster - You can speak at the different podiums, for answering correctly to the people's wishes you'll earn 6 points at a time instead of 4. This allows you to catch up faster with this stat.
- Use your Map to find what you can do quickly - You can press the right shoulder button to bring up your map to quickly find what's available to you to earn points in any stat at any time
