Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a fresh take on a series that's grown stale introducing new open world mechanics

I went in to see LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga thinking it was just going to be another in the line of LEGO Star Wars games. I was very wrong. The Skywalker Saga isn't simply a new game tacked on to a collection of the old games. No, every Star Wars movie has been overhauled for The Skywalker Saga.

The Skywalker Saga is more an open world game where you travel to the various Star Wars locales during the time any given movie takes place. At the main menu, you choose from the nine Star Wars movies to play through, and then you jump in. You're restricted to the worlds that are featured in that film, but you can explore them all. From Coruscant to Endor, to Mustafar, to Bespin and beyond, they said every locale we can think of is in The Skywalker Saga.

That means that the previous games have been overhauled completely for this new way to experience LEGO Star Wars. It's not simply running from level to level, it's running around the worlds of Star Wars to locations we know. While not confirmed, the cutscenes have likely seen a facelift as well.

The worlds look incredible, too. Of course, everything made out of LEGO looks really awesome, but beyond that , the parts that are made to look realistic look incredible. It's like seeing Star Wars Battlefront II with half the world made of LEGO.

Combat has seen an overhaul as well. Now you'll need to see some comboing with lightsabers, tossing enemies about and throwing them in the air to reduce their health bar to zero. Ranged weapons have seen a rework too, working more like a third person shooter where you can zoom in on an over the shoulder view.

The force has a few new tricks as well. Force using characters can manipulate the world with a little more finesse, which was shown off briefly in the demo. In one part, he picked up a rock, and while holding that up in the air with the force, he added one more rock, then another, and began to spin them in the air.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has jumped up to near the top of my most anticipated list. It's a new way to experience some awesome games of old and new, and I can't wait to experience the entire Skywalker Saga again. Any LEGO game fan should be looking forward to this.
