How to Kill a Leyak in Abiotic Factor

Many of the enemies you'll encounter in Abiotic Factor are tough, but few are as annoying as the Leyak. Even your best guns can't do any damage to them and they can spontaneously appear anywhere in the GATE Facility. Fortunately, there's a way to kill them — read on to learn more!

Where to Find a Leyak

You can find a Leyak in Abiotic Factor pretty much anywhere in the GATE Facility. Leyaks will be able to spawn as soon as you go past the X-Ray Tower at the entrance of the Cascade Laboratories.

Leyaks can silently appear in any location within range of a player, even if that area is a part of your base that is considered "mostly safe" thanks to the Crafting Bench buff. You are always under threat of a Leyak attack unless you are inside of a Portal World.

Unfortunately, Leyaks are totally immune to normal damage. None of your weapons will actually damage it when you first encounter a Leyak; you'll need specialized X-Ray weaponry to defeat this enemy. If you encounter a Leyak and you don't have an X-Ray weapon, your best bet is to run away until it disappears.

A Leyak will spawn at random intervals. However, eating a Greyeb or Greyeb Chowder will give you a buff that causes them to spawn more frequently. This can be useful if you need to farm Leyak Essence by killing them.

How to Kill a Leyak in Abiotic Factor

You can kill a Leyak in Abiotic Factor by using an X-Ray weapon such as the X-Ray Tower or X-Ray Lamp. Unfortunately, you will not have access to these items right away.

The first line of defense will be an X-Ray Tower. This is a static turret that must be powered with a plug. It's highly recommended to add a Battery in between the plug and the X-Ray Tower to ensure that it continues working throughout the night.

If you're exploring elsewhere, you'll want to have an X-Ray Lamp with you. This is a battery-powered, handheld version of the X-Ray Tower that works just like a handheld flashlight (and indeed, it provides light as well). Simply activate it and point it at the Leyak to kill it.

A Leyak affected by X-Rays will freeze in place and take damage over approximately 1 second. When it dies, it will drop a single Leyak Essence. Leyak Essence is highly radioactive, so you should place it in a container far away from your living area or a radiation-shielded storage unit such as a Hazard Crate.

How to Make an X-Ray Tower

You can get the crafting recipe for an X-Ray Tower by interacting with the X-Ray Tower at the start of the Cascade Laboratories Sector. Once you have the recipe, you'll need the following items to make it:

• 1 Prismatic Shard
  • 1 Anteverse Gem
  • 1 Optic Lens
  • 2 Stapler
• 2 Refined Carbon
• 1 Lab Burner
  • 1 Refined Carbon
  • 1 Reinforced Hose
    • 1 Hose
    • 1 Box of Screws
    • 1 Steel Cable
• 1 Keyboard

X-Ray Towers require power and they have a limited range. You'll want to place several of them throughout your base to ensure protection in areas you frequent.

How to Make an X-Ray Lamp

An X-Ray Lamp is a handheld version of the X-Ray Tower. You can get the crafting recipe for it by examining the whiteboard near the X-Ray field that is blocking your progress toward the end of the Cascade Laboratories Sector.

• 1 X-Ray Tower
• 2 Jailbroken CPU
• 1 Leyak Essence

As you can see from the crafting recipe, an X-Ray Lamp required 1 Leyak Essence. That means that you must build an X-Ray Tower and use it to kill 1 Leyak before you can build the X-Ray Lamp unless you use the 1 Leyak Essence that you find when you first discover the X-Ray Tower.
