This guide will tell you how to get the Pigeon Coop Key in Conscript and how you can use the Lockpick to get your hands on a Shotgun in Chapter 2 (and a lot of other loot, too.)
Conscript is a survival horror game that is packed with puzzles and locked doors. Once you've unlocked the final door in Chapter 1, you're going to be in a much larger area with tons of useful loot such as the Torch and the Lighter. Once you have the Torch, it's time to open up the Pigeon Coop cage — read on to learn how!
How to Get the Pigeon Coop Key in Conscript | Opening the Pigeon Coop Cage
You can get the Pigeon Coop Key in Conscript by exploring the area underneath the Mess Hall with an equipped Torch, running through Support Trench West, and opening the Pigeon Coop. It will then give you access to the key for the Locked Door (Simple Lock).
You're going to want to have the Torch (Flashlight) before you try to get the Coop Key, so check out our guide on how to get the Torch if you don't have it already.
With that established, here's the map we'll be using for the directions in this guide. Let's get going!
1. Get the Coop Key from the Mess Hall Basement
First things first, we're going to go underneath the Mess Hall through the hatch in the central room. You're going to need to do some preparation, first. One of the most important things to keep in mind is that you're going to need the Torch because it's quite dark in that underground area:
You're also going to have to fight some German soldiers equipped with melee weapons after you get the Pigeon Coop Key in Conscript. Make sure you are fully healed and you have a decent melee weapon with at least 50% remaining durability.
Head down through the hatch in the Mess Hall and you'll be in an underground area called "Gas Transport." This area is a bunch of underground minecarts and rubble. It's not too difficult to figure this area out; you just need to go through the passages and push minecarts out of the way. Eventually, you'll reach the bottom-most room.
Stay away from the gas cloud; it's a small leak of the same chemical gas that you had to run away from at the end of Chapter 1. Walk to the bottom of the room and you can pick up the Coop Key.
Unfortunately, the act of picking up the Coop Key also spawns several German soldiers in the tunnels behind you.
You can deal with the Germans by sneak-attacking them, fighting them outright, or trying to run and roll past them. Whatever you decide, make your way back out of the tunnels and go back into the Mess Hall.
2. Open the Door in the Old Transport Tunnel
Your next step is to go to the Pigeon Coop. Rather than go around the long way, we'll take this opportunity to go through Support Trench West and open up a new path.
Exit out of the west side of the Mess Hall. Support Trench West will have a few German soldiers in it; deal with them however you like. If you need supplies, you can access a Stash in the Mess Hall. (Don't forget to keep the Coop Key in your inventory!)
Note that the southern path in Support Trench West is blocked as you can see by the X with a circle on it on the map up above. You're going to have to go around in a counterclockwise path.
Open the door in the southwest corner of Support Trench West. This will permanently open up an alternate path that you can travel through while you're in the area.
3. Unlock the Pigeon Coop with the Coop Key
Now it's time to make use of the Pigeon Coop Key in Conscript. Walk through the Old Transport Tunnel and into the room with the Pigeon Coop. Interact with it and then use the Pigeon Coop Key on the lock.
Unfortunately, you'll find that the pigeon inside is dead. However, you'll find a Lockpick... and that opens up a path to some more useful items.
If you haven't been here before, you'll also find the Gun Cleaning Kit in this room. You'll definitely want to take it with you for what's coming ahead.
How to Use the Lockpick in Conscript | Opening the Locked Door (Simple Lock)
You can use the Lockpick to open the upper southwestern door in the Monitor Tunnel which is marked "Locked Door (Simple Lock)" on the map. This will open up access to a Shotgun and some other useful items.
We're going to need another map to detail the path we'll follow, so here it is. Let's get moving!
4. Leave the Pigeon Coop
First, you'll have to leave the Pigeon Coop. Head out and into the Old Transport Tunnel.
5. Move Toward Monitor Tunnel (Optional: Stash Items or Save Your Game)
As you can see from the above map, it's going to be quite a long trip. Now might be a good time to save your game or put items away in your Stash. Fortunately, you can find one nearby in West Storage. (Don't forget to keep the Lockpick in your inventory!)
There is a strong chance that you'll have combat in one of the areas ahead, so make sure that you're prepared for a fight. If you have the Gun Cleaning Kit, you'll want to bring it with you.
Go north through the Old Transport Tunnel and back into the Mess Hall. Then, go south through the Mess Hall Access, turn east, and pass through the Trench Thoroughfare. Continue heading east through Reserve Trench East.
6. Stop by Explosives Storage
As you can see on the map, there is an area marked "Explosives Storage" just south of Emergency Control. You can get a stick of Dynamite in here, so take a moment to stop by and pick it up if you have room. You'll need the Dynamite to get the second Wire Cutter part later.
Continue north and then east through Emergency Control and this will put you in Communication Trench East. Head north through Communications Trench East.
7. (Optional) Stash Items or Save Your Game at Reflecting Pool
You'll pass by the Reflecting Pool which is a safe area. You can save your game or stash items here if needed, so take a break if you need it. (Again, don't forget to keep the Lockpick in your inventory.) Either way, your next step is to head through the northern door of Communication Trench East.
Head West through Old Artillery, the place where you originally found the Torch. Go out the southwest door and you'll be in Support Trench East.
Support Trench East can have a few Germans in it, so be prepared for a fight if you haven't been through here in a while. Head west through Support Trench East and go into the Monitor Tunnel.
8. Open the Door to the Mess Hall
Once you're in the Monitor Tunnel, head south. Open the southernmost door and you'll open up access to the Mess Hall.
9. Open the Locked Door (Simple Lock) with the Lockpick
Finally, it's time to open the Locked Door (Simple Lock) in the Monitor Tunnel. Surprisingly, you'll find a fellow French soldier on the other side.
This is Marcel. Talk with him and he'll say that he's going to try and find a way to other French soldiers in this area. Once Marcel leaves, you're free to loot this area and the next one.
You'll find the following items in Fuel Storage:
- Repair Kit: Can be used to repair melee weapons.
- Gun Parts: An item used to upgrade guns, found in the locker.
- Lighter Fluid: Used to fuel the Lighter.
- Note on Rats: A note explaining how Rats are a hazard in the game.
- Fuel (2) x2: Two batches of 2 units of Fuel, which is used to start fires.
Once you've looted the area, head up through the northeast door and you'll find something very useful:
On the ground is a Shotgun, but it's not exactly in working order; you'll need to find a way how to clean it. Here's what you'll find in the Back Door:
- Shotgun (Dirty)
- Fabric
- Gun Parts
- 5 Cigarettes
There is also a Water Pump in this area, but it's not functional yet.
You've looted everything worthwhile for this part of the game, so head back south into the Mess Hall and you can stash away any items you don't need at the moment. Yur next goal will be to get your hands on the Lighter which will allow you to open up another door.
We've reached the end of our guide on how to get the Pigeon Coop Key in Conscript, but there's plenty more to explore — have a gander at our other guides below!
