How to Get a Backpack Upgrade in Sugardew Island

You can get a Backpack upgrade in Sugardew Island by heading north into the Forest Island with the Harmony Tree and speaking with Tomte the Merchant near the Deer Island entrance. Sadly, you won't be able to get a Backpack upgrade right away — you're going to need to earn some Sugardew after you've started your journey.

Tomte sells a total of two upgrades for your backpack:

• Large Bag Expansion
  • Cost: 2,500 Sugardew
  • Increases your backpack size from 6 slots to 12 slots.
• Huge Bag Expansion
  • Cost: 20,000 Sugardew
  • Increases your backpack size from 12 slots to 18 slots.

Naturally, you'll need to earn a fair amount of Sugardew to purchase these backpack upgrades; you'll primarily make your money by growing crops on the farm and selling your produce in the Store to the east of your farm. As a bonus, you'll also be able to complete quests while you do this.

You'll have to purchase the Large Bag Expansion before you buy the Huge Bag Expansion. This means that you'll need to earn a total of 22,500 Sugardew to fully upgrade your Backpack.

I strongly recommend purchasing the Large Bag Expansion as soon as you have a few thousand Sugardew — it will make your life tremendously easier, especially when you need to buy a wide variety of crop seeds or when you need to pick up the free seeds from the animals on the islands surrounding the Harmony Tree.

That said, the Huge Bag Expanison is a little more of a luxury. You can comfortably get away with just 12 slots in your Backpack for most of the game, and there are a number of storage chests spread out at critical areas if you're ever running a little low on space.
