The Arcane Faction, as the name implies, is all about spellcasting. It's somewhat rarer in that the army units are not as much of a focus compared to the Heroes themselves. Some of these Heroes can gain very early access to all four major elements, allowing you to adopt a wide variety of magical tactics.
Hero's Hour Arcane Faction Guide - Unique Buildings
Arcane's Unique Buildings are Arcane Spire, Aether Forge, and Ziggurat.
The Arcane Spire gives all Heroes a random free spell. Once that spell is cast, it rotates to another random free spell.
Artisans and Wizards can spend Aether to gain bonuses.
Ziggurat increases the Mana regeneration for all Heroes by 2 per turn and fully restores Mana to any Hero visiting town.

The Arcane Heroes are Wizard and Artisan.
Wizard Heroes (Aethermancy)
Wizards gain the special Aether Resource after every battle which can, in turn, be used in the Aether Forge to make buffs or special units.
Thezania / Mesmer
Thezania and Mesmer excel in spellcasting, gaining access to all four major elements in the second tier of their skill trees.
Rhyldur / Hithnia
Rhyldur and Hithnia have a focus on summoning units and can invest in elemental magic at the higher end of their skill trees.
Krizys / Evonia
Krizys and Evonia have an early focus on growing their armies and supplement that later with summons and elemental magic.
Artisan Heroes (Alchemy)
Artisans gain Ore every turn which can be spent at the Aether Forge or used for regular construction and unit creation (such as Golems, Cryomancers, and Gargoyles).
Edzuran / Zoromer
Eduzran and Zoromer are balanced Heroes that do a little bit of everything.
Kadz / Jonzo
Kadz and Jonzo are all about growing their armies, either through Diplomacy or Necromancy. They can also consume their units with Devour to become permanently stronger.
Theo / Rolzae
Theo and Rolzae have a focus on buffing their units and making them tougher.

Here are the unit choices you have to make for the Arcane Faction.
Gargoyle or Edict?
Gargoyles are mobile units that are immune to many status effects. Edicts can instead inflict several status effects and can potentially cast a spell when dropping below half health.
Golem or Cryomancer?
Golems serve as an excellent physical barrier to protect your Hero and spellcasters. Cryomancers, on the other hand, use debuffs and ranged AoE attacks to slow and damage incoming enemies.
Liongod or Jotun?
Liongods are highly aggressive melee units. Jotuns hang back and use AoE ranged attacks that do more damage.
