This Forever Skies Wild Habitat Walkthrough will help you navigate this story area and unlock a better Crossbow, an upgraded Backpack, and more!
Wild Habitat Walkthrough
Before we begin the Wild Habitat Walkthrough, you need to make sure that you've found the Research Reports at the top of the Infected Greenhouse. Unfortunately, you won't be able to enter the Infected Greenhouse until you craft an Immunity Booster, and that is a multi-step process that begins at the Wild Habitat.
There is one new piece of technology, a new crafting material, and some new farming crops that you'll need to get in the Wild Habitat. Before you go in, you should ensure that you have the following items on your person:
- A Crossbow
- 60 Crossbow Bolts
- 2 Crystal Batteries
- 5 First Aid Kits
- 10 Repair Patches
When you have all of those items, approach the Wild Habitat. Take note that the entrance is at the very bottom of the tower unlike other locations.
Breaching the Wild Habitat
Once you've landed, make your way over to the beacon on the left and remove its Solid State Battery. There are two shipping containers here that you can loot for Energy Crystals, Synthetic Compound, and Machine Parts.
Walk up to the gate and you'll see a strange device with white circles on it.
This is an Old Alternator. Hitting it with your Knife or a Crossbow Bolt will cause it to spin and generate power; typically, Old Alternators are used to open doors. This one is behind some bars, so you'll have to shoot with your Crossbow.
Walk forward and you'll see a tablet on the ground. Loot the immediate area, then head down the right-hand path. You'll find Summer Balm Fruit in a large, open area.
Looting the Lobby
This upper area has some Breathnuts, a broken chest, and various other loot. Use the Repair Patches to open up the chest and loot it.
When you're certain you have all the loot, start descending down the metal ramp.
The metal ramp will soon turn into a vine.
Entering the Underdust
Head down the vine and you'll soon enter the toxic air of the Underdust.
When you reach the bottom of the vine, you'll encounter 2 to 3 Impious Mantises for the first time. This isn't a cutscene like the Underdust Laboratory — you're actually going to have to fight them this time.
An Impious Mantis has a savage melee attack and it can also spit acid from a range. The acid stays on the ground where it landed for 10 to 15 seconds, so you won't want to stand in one place while fighting them.
You can kill an Impious Mantis with 4 to 7 Crossbow Bolts from your Crossbow. Kill all of the Impious Mantises in the immediate area and you'll get your first pieces of Chitin.
Deeper Into the Dust
Follow the left-hand wall (or the right-hand wall, it doesn't matter) and you'll come across your first Oxygen Station next to a destroyed crate.
Insert one of the Crystal Batteries you brought with you into this Oxygen Refill Station if you need it; alternatively, you can harvest some of the Breathnuts nearby and use those.
Make sure to restore your health using a First Aid Kit if you've taken any damage; a little ways down the path ahead is another group of Impious Mantises in a large open area. Kill them all as you did before.
Turn to your left and you'll see a big glowing arch.
Walk through it, head uphill, and climb up the stairs.
At the top of the stairs is the second (and final) Oxygen Machine.
Clearing the Final Area
Put your second Crystal Battery into the Oxygen Refill Station. Don't start looting just yet, though.
Turn around 180 degrees and you'll see some shipping containers. There may be one or more smaller bugs coming at you. These are Webling Larva, and there is a nest nearby that will keep spawning them until you destroy it.
Go to the other side of the shipping containers and you can find their nest.
Destroy the nest with your crossbow or knife.
Now, it's time to loot this area. There are several new plants and crafting materials to collect here, along with an impassable barrier. Gather the following items:
- Diver Pearl Fruit
- Dust Firecracker Fruit
- Moss Needle (on top of the shipping containers)
- Fiberglass (on the building with the second Oxygen Refill Station)
The Dust Firecracker Fruit will allow you to craft Charged Bolts in combination with Crossbow Bolts and Energy Crystals. The most valuable stuff here is blocked by the Charged Growth Blockades, and the only way to dispel those is with a Charged Bolt.
Unfortunately, you'll need to research Charged Bolts before you can craft them, and that means you'll need to return to your Airship. Make your way back to the surface and offload your loot in your Airship.
This is an optimal time to do a bit of farming, because you just got two very valuable plants. Dust Firecracker Fruits are used to make Charged Bolts, and those are much more lethal to Impious Mantises. They can also be used to dispel the blockages of the energy barriers in the overworld, so you'll definitely want to grow some Dust Firecracker Fruits.
The Diver Pearl Fruit may be even more valuable — it can be used to craft Liquid Oxygen in the Distiller. You can then put it into a Large Bottle and carry 20 refills of 100 Oxygen with you for only one inventory space. You should absolutely make this and always carry at least 1 full Large Bottle of Liquid Oxygen with you on every expedition going forward.
Wrapping Up the Wild Habitat
In any case, we need to head back down into the Wild Habitat to get the rest of the loot. Offload everything you don't need in your Airship to free up as much inventory space as possible. Craft at least 5 Charged Bolts (although more are better, obviously).
You're also going to want to bring any unwanted Artifacts you have. (As a reminder, Artifacts are the decorations like the gnome statues and posters that you can find at points of interest. You will soon be able to trade them in for some other items.
Go all the way back down into the Wild Habitat. Go to the far side of the shipping container directly behind the second Oxygen Refill Station and you'll find a Charged Blockade over it; destroy it and you'll find a Wrecked Upgraded Crossbow next to a corpse. Scan it.
Next, head over to the crashed Airship. Go inside and you'll find a cool poster. Finally, shoot the Charged Blockade next to the Oxygen Refill Station and you'll see something quite unusual inside.
This is an Artifact Trade Station. You can sell up to 7 Artifacts to it before it shuts down; each sold Artifact will get you some Tech Fragments (the currency for these machines) and some Trading XP.
You'll have to visit a few Artifact Trade Stations to upgrade your Artifact Trading Level to 3, but it's worth it — this is the only way to get the blueprint for the Large Backpack.
Sell and buy some Artifacts if you wish; the area around the Artifact Station has clean air so you can take your time. Then, go to your left and you'll find a beehive and a ladder going down. You can get the new Motion Detector crafting material here along with a bunch of other loot.
Once you've cleared this area, you're done with the Wild Habitat — your next stop is to blast through the energy field on the overworld and make your way to the New Nature Territory.
