How Crafting Works

The Forever Skies crafting system is pretty standard fare for survival games. As you might expect, you'll need to know a crafting recipe and have the necessary crafting materials and the correct crafting station to make an item.

Many critical items can be made in your Suit Printer, which is essentially crafting from your inventory. If you're on your Airship, you'll automatically be able to craft with resources in any storage aboard your Airship.

Some crafting materials can be upgraded into other crafting materials. For example, Metals can be turned into Machine Parts. In some cases, you get a discount for bulk crafting; to illustrate this point, you can make 1 Machine Parts for 5 Metals or you can make a batch of 5 Machine Parts for 22 Metals, roughly a 10% discount.

Aside from making the everyday items you need, you can also upgrade items into something better. This typically requires the base item and some additional crafting resources. For example, making an Upgraded Engine requires 1 Engine, 2 Upgrade Module, 2 Transformer, and 5 Polymer.

How to Unlock New Crafting Recipes

Generally speaking, there are two ways to unlock new crafting recipes:

1. Finding all of the resources required to make it
2. Scanning a specific piece of technology or reading a data pad to learn its blueprint

For the purposes of this guide, we're only listing the unlock requirements if you need to scan a particular item or complete a particular objective; otherwise, you can assume that a crafting recipe is unlocked simply by picking up all of the crafting materials needed to make it.
