Help Chadley out with his research

Final Fantasy VII Remake is out and while players are already out and about exploring Midgar you've likely come across Chadley in the Sector 5 slums on your first visit. When you meet him he'll inform you that he's working on collecting Battle Intel to try to create Materia and undermine Shinra while he's at it. Over the course of Final Fantasy VII Remake he adds more and more tasks to your Battle Intel list. when you complete each one he'll reward you with the ability to purchase rare Materia. Completing Battle Intel is the only way to acquire some of these Materia so it's in your best interest to get these done as you go.

One of the best things about the Battle Intel is that if you clear an objective before you get it from Chadley it unlocks retroactively. Depending on where you are in the story you might not be able to see the Intel that's listed below but you can already start checking these boxes. Along the way of completing all of the Battle Intel you'll net yourself the Summon A Slayer Trophy for your first Summon VR battle as well as Intelligence Agent Trophy for completing every battle intel report.

 
 


Report 1    Monster Bio Pt. 1

Condition:  Assess 2 enemy types

New Materia:  Auto-Cure Materia - Casts Cure on severely injured allies up to a set number of times. Will not activate if the character does not have enough ATB charges and MP, or the player is controlling the character.

How to Earn: The first time you encounter Chadley he will give you the Assess Materia. To complete this you need to equip the Assess Materia to a character and use it on an enemy to learn more about them. Use Assess on 2 unique monsters to earn this.

Tips: This Report also escalates with Report 6, Report 11, and Report 16 where you ultimately need to Assess 40 types of enemies. Continue Assessing enemies as you come across them for easy completion of Report 16.

 

Report 2    Magic Elements Pt. 1

Condition:  Hit enemies vulnerable to fire, ice, or lightning using the appropriate magic. (Number of Attacks: 1 for each element)

New Materia:  Wind Materia - Allows you to use wind magic.

 

How to Earn: After using Assess on an enemy in the top right of the screen it will list elemental weaknesses. You simply need to hit an enemy that is weak with each of the three elements once.

 

Report 3    The Stagger Effect Pt. 1

Condition:  Use unique abilities on staggered enemies and charge the ATB gauge 10 times.

New Materia:  First Strike Materia - Increases how full the ATB gauge is at the start of the battle.

 

How to Earn: The wording on this report is a bit confusing but what you need to do is stagger an enemy and then do enough damage with a character's unique ability (their Triangle attack) in order to build up a portion of your ATB gauge. This will be easiest to complete with Cloud as his Unique Ability is fast-paced.

Tips: You can waste your ATB on non-damaging abilities and healing items so as to not waste any enemy health and maximize how much ATB you can regain

 

Report 4    The Stagger Effect Pt. 2

Condition:  Stagger 15 enemy types

New Materia:  ATB Boost Materia - Doubles ATB when activated. It cannot be used continuously. Press L1 + R1 to activate.

How to Earn: For this, you need to just deal enough damage to 15 different enemy types to stagger them. If you Assess an enemy and bring up their stat sheet on the left in the yellow text will be battle strategy recommendations. This will normally include tips to stagger the enemy faster.

Tips: This Report also escalates with Report 14 where you ultimately need to stagger 40 enemy types so even after completing this keep staggering enemies to be prepared

 

Report 5    Combat Simulation: Shiva

Condition:  Defeat Shiva

New Materia:  Shiva Materia - Allows you to summon Shiva.

How to Earn: From Chadley select VR Missions and complete the Shiva battle.

 

Report 6    Monster Bio Pt. 2

Condition:  Assess 10 enemy types

New Materia:  Steadfast Block Materia - Further decreases enemy damage and fills the ATB gauge faster when guarding

How to Earn: The first time you encounter Chadley he will give you the Assess Materia. To complete this you need to equip the Assess Materia to a character and use it on an enemy to learn more about them. Use Assess on 10 unique monsters to earn this.

Tips: This Report also escalates with Report 11, and Report 16 where you ultimately need to Assess 40 types of enemies. Continue Assessing enemies as you come across them for easy completion of Report 16.

 

Report 7    Magic Elements Pt. 2

Condition:  Exploit weaknesses of 15 enemy types

New Materia:  Steal Materia - Allows you to use Steal.

How to Earn: While similar to Report 2 going forward it doesn't matter how many of each enemies magic weakness. Use Assess to discover an enemies magical weakness and cast the corresponding spell on them.

Tips: You need this Materia to get a missable weapon.

 

Report 8    The Manipulation Technique

Condition:  Defeat 2 or more enemies with a single attack

New Materia:  Provoke Materia - Automatically uses Provoke to temporarily draw the enemy's attention when teammates are deverly injured. Ineffective against powerful enemies. Will not activate if the player is controlling the character.

How to Earn: This you will likely get through normal play as you attack small enemies such as Wererats. Use large scale attacks, or even Cloud's Hold-Square where he does a large sweep with his sword near these fodder enemy.

 

Report 9    Monster Variants Pt. 1

Condition:  Defeat monsters of 3 unique varieties

New Materia:  Synergy Materia - Allows an ally to follow the leader's attack command with an attack from linked materia. Works with fire, ice, lightning, wind, and poison materia.

How to Earn: As you progress through the game you will encounter special variant monster species, they are most commonly encountered when completing side quests. If you are completing quests as the game progresses you'll get this early. Some monster variants appear in the wild during the end game.

Tips: This Report also escalates in Report 19 where ultimately you need to defeat monsters of 10 unique varieties.

 

Report 10    Combat Simulation: Fat Chocobo

Condition:  Defeat a fat chocobo

New Materia:  Fat Chocobo Materia - Allows you to summon a fat chocobo.

How to Earn: From Chadley select VR Missions and complete the Fat Chocobo battle.

Tips: This is also the easiest place to complete Report 12, if you want to take out two birds (one really fat one) with one stone then check the guide for Report 12 below.

 

Report 11    Monster Bio Pt. 3

Condition:  Assess 20 enemy types

New Materia:  Item Master Materia - Increases the effectiveness of items used in battle.

How to Earn: The first time you ecounter Chadley he will give you the Assess Materia. To complete this you need to equip the Assess Materia to a character and use it on an enemy to learn more about them. Use Assess on 20 unique monsters to earn this.

Tips: This Report also escalates with Report 16 where you ultimately need to Assess 40 types of enemies. Continue Assessing enemies as you come across them for easy completion of Report 16.

 

Report 12    The Staggering Effect Pt. 3

Condition:  Increase stagger damage bonus to 200%

New Materia:  Parry Materia - Guards against enemy attacks and allows you to quickly unleash your next move. Hold R1 and press Circle to activate. Deals a small amount of damage.

How to Earn: The best place to complete this Report is actually in the Fat Chocobo fight because of its high defence and long stagger time.

At the start of this battle you will change to Tifa and start fighting the Fat Chocobo. You want to make sure you have two ATB guages filled on Tifa but before the Fat Chocobo is staggered you want to use her ability Unbridled Strength twice. Each time you use Unbridled Strength Tifa's Unique Ability (Triangle Attack) will level up in power, this also increases how much it increases the stagger guage.

Once the Fat Chocobo reaches stagger use Tifa's Triangle attack three times in a row, each hit will get less powerful but the Fat Chocobo will likely reach 200%+ stagger. If it doesn't get to 200% then you have more than enough time to repeat the steps above.

Tips: If you find you're killing the Fat Chocobo before you can get to 200% stagger then try giving your characters weaker equipment

 

Report 13    Refocus Analysis

Condition:  Trigger Refocus 2 times

New Materia:  ATB Assist Materia - Slightly fills teammates' ATB gauges when ATB commander are used back-to-back.

How to Earn: When you have Aerith join your party she will have the Refocus Materia equipt. This will allow your ATB gauge to be split into three instead of two. Simply use this materia twice as Aerith, or whoever has it equipt, reaches Limit Break state.

 

Report 14    The Stagger Effect Pt. 4

Condition:  Stagger 40 enemy types

New Materia:  ATB Stagger Materia - Increases ATB when staggering an enemy.

How to Earn: For this you need to just deal enough damage to 40 different enemy types to stagger them. If you Assess an enemy and bring up their stat sheet on the left in yellow text will be battle strategy recommendations. This will normally include tips to stagger the enemy faster.

 

Report 15    Combat Simulation: Leviathan

Condition:  Defeat Leviathan

New Materia:  Leviathan Materia - Allows you to summon Leviathan.

How to Earn: From Chadley select VR Missions and complete the Leviathan battle.

 

Report 16    Monster Bio Pt. 4

Condition:  Assess 30 enemy types

New Materia:  Enemy Skill Materia - Gives you a chance to learn certain enemy techniques that you've endured and use them as abilities. These abilities can only be used when the materia is set to your equipment.

How to Earn: The first time you encounter Chadley he will give you the Assess Materia. To complete this you need to equip the Assess Materia to a character and use it on an enemy to learn more about them. Use Assess on 30 unique monsters to earn this.

 

Report 17    Weapon Abilities

Condition:  Acquire all 16 Weapon abilities

New Materia:  Skill Master Materia - Slightly fills the ATB gauge when multiple ATB commands are performed.

How to Earn: Each weapon you earn during the game will have a special ability that can only be used initially when that weapon is equipt. e.g Cloud's Iron Blade has the Triple Slash ability

By using a weapons ability you increase your Proficiency in it, once you reach 100% then that ability is the characters to use whenever they want. You only need to use the ability at most 10 times so even after earning a new weapon it's an easy process to use your new special attack. After doing this for 16 weapons you'll earn this Report.

Tips: There are more than 16 weapons in the game, but likely you'll be earning these abilities through regular play regardless.

 

Report 18    MP Consumption

Condition:  Master all 12 types of magic materia

New Materia:  MP Absorption Materia - Allows you to recover MP when unleashing an attack of the linked materia's type. Works with fire, ice, lightning, wind, poison, enemy skill, deadly dodge, and parry materia.

How to Earn: Each of the 12 Magic Materia earns AP after battles, this is used to level them up. For this Report, you need to level at least one Materia of each of the 12 types to their max level. You will encounter each Materia through play so even if you don't see 12 different types by the time you get this Report you soon will.

The 12 Magic Materia Types are as follows: 

  1. Healing
  2. Cleansing
  3. Revival
  4. Fire
  5. Ice
  6. Lightning
  7. Wind
  8. Poison
  9. Barrier
  10. Binding
  11. Subversion
  12. Time


Tips: Later in the game, you'll get a Pedometer Materia that requires you to walk 5000 steps. If you complete that requirement the Pedometer Materia will turn into the AP Up Materia, this will increase the amount of AP that a linked materia receives. This will help you speed up development on ones you're still missing.

 

Report 19    Monster Variants Pt. 2

Condition:  Defeat monsters of 10 unique varieties

New Materia:  HP Absorption Materia - Allows you to recover HP when unleashing an attack of the linked materia's type. Works with fire, ice, lightning, wind, poison, enemy skill, deadly dodge, and parry materia.

How to Earn: As you progress through the game you will encounter special variant monster species, they are most commonly encountered when completing side quests. If you are completing quests as the game progresses you'll get this early. Some monster variants appear in the wild during the end game.

TIps: Be sure to be completing all side-quests if you want to earn this Report

 

Report 20    Combat Simulation Bahamut

Condition:  Defeat Bahamut

New Materia:  Bahamut Materia - Allows you to summon Bahamut.

How to Earn: From Chadley select VR Missions and complete the Bahamut battle.

 


 

With all of the above completed, you have now fulfilled all Battle Intel requirements for Chadley.
