Fields of Mistria HUD Explanation

HUD Explanation of Fields of Mistria Showing the Character Running Through The Narrows with HUD Elements Marked with Numbers

  1. Health: Your Health meter. This bar doesn't show up if you are at full health. Taking damage reduces your Health, and eating food or resting restores health. You can only take damage from monsters in the Mines.
  2. Stamina: Your Stamina meter. Stamina is required for performing most tasks. Performing tasks reduces your Stamina, and eating food or resting restores it.
  3. Mana: Your Mana meter. Mana is used to cast magic spells once you've unlocked the ability to do so.
  4. Buffs/Debuffs: Any buffs or debuffs that are currently active will appear below the Mana bar. Most buffs and debuffs have a timer which is represented by the bar below the buff or debuff.
  5. Location: When you enter a new location, its name will be shown at the top center of the screen. This is replaced with a level indicator when you're in the Mines.
  6. Weather and Season: The current weather is represented by an icon and the name of the current season is shown in this same panel.
  7. Time of Day: The current time of day is shown just below the weather and season.
  8. Day and Date: The current date and day of the week are shown in the little calendar icon at the top right of the screen.
  9. Tessarae (Money): The counter with the gold coin next to it shows how much Tessarae you have; Tessarae is the name for Mistria's currency.
  10. Essence: This counter shows how much Essence you've collected. Essence is a currency that you earn by performing tasks; you can subsequently spend Essence to buy skill perks.
  11. Hotbar: As is standard with these games, your hotbar is at the bottom center of the screen. You can get a second hotbar when you expand your backpack.

Fields of Mistria Guide | Starter Guide Walkthrough

Now that we've explained the HUD, it's time to get moving on the rest of our Fields of Mistria Guide! This Starter Guide walkthrough will help you navigate the first few days of the game and give you some helpful tips for succeeding. Let's get to it!

Creating Your Character

After you've clicked "New Game" and watched the first cutscene, you'll be tasked with creating your character. You have a wide range of options for choosing your hair, clothing, skin color, birthday, etc.

While some of these choices will have a mild effect on gameplay (such as your pronouns and birthday), many of these elements can be changed later. Don't worry too much about your clothing, for example; you'll find quite a lot of clothing customization options as you progress through the game and you can change them at any time. You can even save outfits!

Getting Started on Your Farm

You'll begin the game just outside of town. You'll have to make a short trip to your farm and watch some cutscenes. You'll then wake up with a Worn Sword, 1 Vegetable Soup, a Worn Hoe, a Worn Watering Can, 3 Tulip Seeds, and 3 Turnip Seeds. You're missing many basic tools, so your first few days will be focused on getting them.

Before you get moving, you should plant the crops that you currently have. Clear away the Fiber in the dirt to the south of your house using your Worn Sword. Next, use your Worn Hoe to dig 6 farm plots. Plant the seeds from your hotbar, and then water them with the Worn Watering Can.

Performing these activities will drain some of your Stamina. You won't be able to do anything when your Stamina is fully drained, but you won't pass out, either — you'll simply stand still for a moment and yawn.

Put away everything except for your Worn Sword in the chest inside of your house.

Heading to Town

Head north from your farm and into the town of Mistria. Keep moving north and go up the stone stairs. When you do, a cutscene will begin. Adeline will give you your first Quest: meet all of the people of Mistria.

Unlike other games in the Farming RPG genre, quests in Fields of Mistria do not have a time limit. That said, it's a good idea to work on meeting everybody so you can reap the rewards.

Open the map and you'll see a bunch of icons:

Mistria Map Showing Townsfolk You Haven't Met Yet in Fields of Mistria

The grey people represent townsfolk that you haven't met yet.

Keep in mind that people will move around throughout the day and some people are in other areas. For example, this is the area directly to the west of the farm:

The Narrows Map Showing Townsfolk You Haven't Met Yet in Fields of Mistria

Travel around the town and meet everyone so you can complete the quest, referring to the map as you go to keep track of everyone.

Meeting the Mistrians

It's now time to meet the townsfolk. Using the map as a guide, run around the different sections of the game and talk to everyone. You can track your progress by clicking on the Quest button in the main menu.

You'll likely see some forageables while you're running around. You should pick them up at every opportunity.

Picking Up Water Chestnuts in The Narrows in Fields of Mistria

Once you've met everyone, return to Adeline to turn the quest in and collect your reward.

Head back into Mistria and go into the General Store right next to the Request Board in town. Use all of your money to purchase 6 Turnip Seeds and return to your farm.

Planting More Seeds and Foraging

When you're back at the farm, place all of the forageables you've found into the Shipping Bin. Although you might want to donate some to the Museum, your focus should be on getting as much money as possible right now; you'll have the entire month of Spring to get what you need.

You should hold onto Wild Berries and Water Chestnuts for now. Use right-click to split the stacks and sell only one Wild Berry and one Water Chestnut; keep the rest.

Till the soil and plant the Turnips and Potatoes you got. When you're done, there isn't much else to do for the rest of the day. You can explore the land to search for more Forageables and sell them if you'd like. Remember: only sell one Wild Berry and one Water Chestnut for now!

How to Save Your Game

It's time to save your game at the end of the day. You have two options: the Bed and the Diary.

Using the bed will overwrite your main save game file and end the day. Using the Diary, however, will create a new, separate save file. You can use the Diary at any time and then jump right back into the game if you need to. The Diary effectively allows you to make a new hard save; it's not a bad idea to save at the Diary every few days so you have backup saves.

Day 2 | Getting the Worn Axe and the Worn Pickaxe

After you go to sleep, you'll see a summary screen showing how much you've increased your Town Rank and how much money you've earned. If you level up, you'll get notified that a new Town Rank reward is available.

When you head outside, you'll find Eiland is chopping down one of the trees on your farm. He'll give you the Worn Axe. The cutscene will end and you'll be able to get back to the game.

First, go down to your fields and water all of the crops you planted yesterday. Then, head to your mailbox and you'll get a request from Errol to visit the Museum.

Go into town and walk up to the Request Board. You'll find a new quest called "Do a Bro a Favor." Take any other available Quests. If you've advanced your Town Rank, you can get your reward in the chest next to the Request Board.

Track down Olric using the map and speak with him. He'll give you the Worn Pickaxe after a short cutscene. When the cutscene is over, you'll emerge just outside of the Blacksmith's Shop.

Head directly to the Museum and you'll get to see a cutscene with Errol. You'll also have the opportunity to view the Museum tutorial if you wish. Then, head back outside and run around collecting all of the forageables you can. Sell everything except for Wild Berries and Water Chestnuts. Then, go to sleep.

Enter the Dragon

After you've gone to sleep, you'll be greeted by the dragon Caldarus. Caldarus tells you that repairing his shrine has awoken magic in the work in the form of Essence. You'll also have the opportunity to view the Skill Perk tutorial.

Essence is a currency that you earn by performing activities in the game. You can then spend this Essence at the dragon statue on your farm to purchase skill perks that can fundamentally change your experience. I strongly recommend focusing on purchasing the farming skill perks as those will be helpful with saving Stamina and earning money in the early game.

Day 3 and Beyond

Start Day 3 in the usual way — head outside and water your crops. Then, check your mailbox and you'll see a letter from Adeline asking you to meet her at the bridge you hopped over at the start of the game.

Go over to the bridge and Adeline tells you that this will be the first infrastructure project for the town following the earthquake. You'll have to collect 60 Wood and 60 Stone and deposit it in the chest next to the bridge.

In the coming days, you'll get an opportunity to get a Worn Fishing Rod and Worn Net from Quests that you'll receive in the mail. The Worn Shovel, however, will have to be purchased from the General Store for 500 Tessarae.

Here's one final important piece of advice: focus on completing main quests as quickly as you can. Even if you don't care about the next objective, completing main quests will open up opportunities to get more useful items like Bag Upgrades to expand your backpack inventory.

You'll eventually gain access to the Mines and you'll gain the ability to craft better tools with blacksmithing and enhance your experience with magic. There's a lot to explore in Fields of Mistria — have fun! Make sure to check out our other guides below, too!

How to Increase Your Health

You can permanently increase your Health in Fields of Mistria by opening the magical seals placed on every 20 levels of the Mines. You will then get a heart item that you can eat to permanently increase your Health by 20.

In addition to this item, some blacksmithing skill perks will give you a random chance to infuse armor with bonus health.

How to Increase Your Stamina

You can increase your Stamina in Fields of Mistria by increasing your Town Rank. Every 10 levels will give you a Stamina Up potion that permanently increases your Stamina by 20 and fully restores it.

What Time Does the Day End?

The day ends at 2:00 AM in Fields of Mistria. If you are not in bed by 2:00 AM, you will wake up at 10:00 AM the next day instead of 6:00 AM.

What Happens if You Run Out of Stamina?

If you run out of Stamina in Fields of Mistria, you will be unable to perform any tasks that require Stamina (such as farming or fishing) until you restore your Stamina. Your character will yawn and you will be unable to move for a short time while in this tired state.

What Happens if You Die in Combat?

If you die in combat in Field of Mistria's Mines, you'll wake up in the Clinic. Valen will have a short conversation with you and the day will immediately end. You will wake up at 10:00 AM the next day with slightly reduced Stamina, but you won't lose any Tessarae (money).
