Our Fields of Mistria Skills Guide tells you how skill works, how you can level up your skills, and how you can power up your character with skill perks.

Fields of Mistria divides all of the various things you can do (such as farming and cooking) into skills. These skills represent your proficiency with that particular discipline, and leveling up a skill allows you to purchase powerful skill perks. Read on to learn more!

Planting a Lot of Broccoli Seeds Quickly Using Skills in Fields of Mistria
Skills can give you new abilities for each category. For example, certain farming skills will allow you to plant many seeds quickly and automatically water some of the seeds you've already planted.

How Skills Work in Fields of Mistria

Fields of Mistria skills are divided into 9 distinct categories, each of which represents a different activity that you can perform in the game. These categories are:

  • Farming: Growing and harvesting crops on your farm.
  • Fishing: Catching fish in the ocean, rivers, and ponds.
  • Archaeology: Digging up artifacts.
  • Cooking: Combining ingredients to cook food.
  • Ranching: Raising animals on your farm.
  • Woodcrafting: Crafting items at a Crafting Station.
  • Blacksmithing: Crafting metal items at the forge.
  • Mining: Digging up ore in the Mines.
  • Combat: Fighting enemies in the Mines.

Every skill has a level which you can see on the bottom left of the default menu screen. Clicking on this portion of the menu will bring up a more precise meter showing your progress on each of the nine skills.

Completing activities will earn you small amounts of Essence, a currency that can then be used to invest in skill perks. Skill perks are permanent buffs that you can unlock for your skills.

Certain crafting disciplines (such as cooking, woodworking, and blacksmithing) require a minimum level of skill to make certain recipes. Furthermore, getting to Level 15 and Level 30 in cooking, respectively, will make better Kitchens available for purchase at the Carpenter's Shop.

How to Level Up Your Skills

You can level up your skills in Fields of Mistria by performing the tasks associated with that skill. You gain Farming skill by farming crops, Fishing skill by catching fish, and so on. Increasing the level of your skills does not appear to have any immediate benefit other than opening up access to more recipes.

However, you can unlock a new set of four skill perks that you can buy with Essence at Level 15 and Level 30 for that skill. Level 30 is currently the maximum skill level in the Early Access launch version of the game.
