Our guide on Abiotic Factor Fishing will go over how you can craft a rod and start catching fish, along with why it's worth doing.

While catching fish in Abiotic Factor, it's also worth keeping an eye on how you level your other skills. Fish are also a good source of food, with some dropping rarer crafting resources.
Crafting a Fishing Rod
As you've no doubt guessed, fish in Abiotic Factor can be caught using a Fishing Rod. The recipe for a Fishing Rod unlocks once you've obtained a Stapler for the first time.
To craft a Fishing Rod, you need:
- 1 Stapler
- 2 Desk Phones
- 4 Plastic Scrap
- 2 Wood Plank
You'll only need one of these per player, as they can be repaired using Wood Planks at a Repair Bench. Fishing does not seem to reduce the durability rating, so it will only go down when you die with it in your inventory (depending on server settings.)
Catching Fish
With rod in hand, head to any body of water — yes, this even includes tiny ones like the lobby fountain. Hold left click to prepare the cast, then let go to throw the hook in the direction you're looking.
If a fish is present, a small shadow should soon appear and start swimming around, before biting the hook.
The fish will struggle, represented by a jet of water coming out of the bobber. To counter this, you want to move in the opposite direction. For example, if the fish is swimming away, you'll want to press the movement key/direction that is towards you.
When it stops moving, hold the use button to reel the fish in. You'll need to repeat this pattern a few times before the fish is caught.
Catching fish earns Fishing XP, even if the final result happens to be a junk item like a mug.
Bait
Each time you catch a new fish for the first time, you'll unlock its respective bait as well (e.g. Portal Fish unlocks Portal Fish Bait.) This lets you have a higher chance of catching that fish with the bait equipped, while also making a rare variant of it more likely to appear.
Bait can be equipped to the fishing rod by holding down the reload key. Note that bait will be used up even if you only catch Junk — at Fishing Level 12, there's a 33% chance that this wont cause you to lose bait.
Butchering and Cooking Fish
Fish can be butchered at a Chef's Counter, using the new fish preparation section on the right side. Each type of fish can be butchered to produce different items, though some materials have a lower chance of dropping than others.
Raw Fish Filets can be cooked on a frying pan to make quick and easy food. Fishes that can be butchered into Filets also drop different types of Filet that offer more or less Hunger Fill.
Trading Fish For Staplers
One extra use for fish — or rather, one specific fish — is in trading. Warren in the Office Sector will trade you staplers if you drop Raw Antefish Filets into the chute next to his office.
While the rest of the fish locations are listed below, Antefish are available at the Caves in Manufacturing West inside the purple pools, or in the Labs Sector aquarium.
